At the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, from October 8-10, 2026, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation paid an official visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The official visit to Laos and Cambodia by Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung was highly successful, achieving many significant and substantive results, deepening traditional friendship, and creating new momentum for comprehensive cooperation with these two neighboring countries, which hold a paramount position in our Party and State's foreign policy.

Firstly, the visit holds significant political and diplomatic importance, as it marks Prime Minister Le Minh Hung's first official visit to Laos and Cambodia in his capacity as Prime Minister, and also his first official bilateral foreign visit as the head of the Government.

Notably, for Laos, this is the first visit by a key Vietnamese leader, and our Prime Minister is also the first foreign leader to visit Laos right after the country completed its key leadership appointments. The Lao Party, State, and National Assembly elected a new Prime Minister and National Assembly Chairman. For Cambodia, the visit coincides with a period when Cambodia is continuing to implement important plans to execute economic-social development strategies and prepare for significant foreign affairs activities.

Senior leaders of Laos and Cambodia highly appreciated the visit, which reflects the special relationship and traditional friendship between the two countries, as well as the determination of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam to elevate cooperation with Laos and Cambodia to a new level.

During the visit, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and senior leaders of Laos and Cambodia discussed various topics related to the relations between the two Parties, the two countries, cooperation aspects, as well as international and regional issues of mutual concern, thereby enhancing political trust, mutual understanding, and setting important political directions for the relations between Vietnam and Laos and Cambodia, affirming the special importance of defense-security cooperation, a pillar of the relationship.

Secondly, another very important aspect of this visit is that Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, along with the leaders of Laos and Cambodia, exchanged views and assessed the implementation of specific cooperation in various fields; together with ministries and sectors, they fundamentally resolved the difficulties of past projects, actively implementing practical results for cooperation projects agreed upon by the Politburo, the two General Secretaries, Presidents of Vietnam and Laos, as well as the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Standing Committee of the Cambodian People's Party, Cambodian leaders; at the same time, opening up new directions, fields, and potential cooperation projects, creating additional momentum and resources for new development for Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

Thirdly, this visit also actively implements the foreign policy of the 14th Party Congress, reflecting the importance and priority given to neighboring relations with Laos and Cambodia. The visit is also a very important preparation step for significant high-level foreign affairs activities between Vietnam and Laos and Cambodia in the near future, especially in preparation for very important events between Vietnam and Laos and Cambodia in 2027, including the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962), the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (July 18, 1977), and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967).

These are significant milestones, creating additional momentum to continue strengthening political trust, enhancing strategic connectivity, and promoting relations between Vietnam and Laos and Cambodia to new heights.

In less than 48 hours, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation engaged in numerous important and diverse activities, meeting with all senior leaders of Laos and Cambodia, attending and speaking at business forums and investment promotion events with the extensive participation of Vietnamese, Lao, and Cambodian businesses in both countries, witnessing the signing and exchange of nearly 40 documents and agreements between agencies, localities, and enterprises of the two countries; meeting with representatives of the overseas Vietnamese community and our Embassy staff in both countries.
