During the meeting, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam sincerely thanked Ms. Sharon Claydon, Deputy Speaker of the Australian Parliament, for enthusiastically continuing her role as Chair of the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians for the new term (2025-2028).
The Ambassador expressed his desire for the association to rapidly grow, welcoming new members, and becoming one of the largest friendship groups in the Australian Parliament, contributing positively to the friendship and cooperation between the two parliaments and countries.
Ambassador Pham Hung Tam emphasized the important role of the Vietnamese community in Australia, a significant electorate of over 350,000 people, with many groups actively supporting the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including the Vietnamese Business Association in Australia, the Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts Association in Australia, and various business and student associations across most Australian states.
Deputy Speaker Sharon Claydon praised the strong development of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, especially in trade, investment, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges. She stated that she would continue to compile a list of new members of the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians interested in Vietnam and bilateral cooperation. She emphasized her personal readiness to welcome high-level Vietnamese delegations to Australia and plans to visit Vietnam with members of the friendship group.
Ms. Sharon Claydon also expressed interest in Vietnam's socio-economic development efforts, including the restructuring and streamlining of Vietnam's state administrative apparatus.
Senator Andrew McLachlan, Deputy Chair of the Australian Bicameral Communications Committee, expressed his honor to serve as Vice Chair of the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians of the 48th Federal Parliament. He highlighted the rapid development of the Australia-Vietnam friendship and cooperation, noting the growing relationship between South Australia and Vietnam.
She expressed satisfaction with Vietnam becoming South Australia's sixth-largest export market, with about 3,000 Vietnamese students studying in the state and several individuals in the Vietnamese community achieving notable success, including one serving as a state parliamentarian.
Other parliamentarians attending the meeting unanimously valued the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, recognizing the vast potential for cooperation and expressing their readiness to contribute to promoting bilateral friendship and cooperation in general, and between the two parliaments in particular.
On this occasion, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam invited the Deputy Speaker of the Australian Parliament and other parliamentarians to enjoy traditional Vietnamese dishes.
