The forum focused on reviewing the progress of implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In his opening remarks, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres warned that the progress of the 2030 Agenda remains slow, with only about one-third of the SDGs on track or showing progress. According to the Secretary-General, conflicts, inequality, climate change, rising food and energy prices, and public debt burdens are hindering sustainable development progress.
Speaking at the discussion session, Minister, Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations Nguyen Hai Luu emphasised that with only four years left to complete the 2030 Agenda, the international community must take more decisive actions to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs. He called for enhanced technology transfer, bridging the digital divide, capacity building, and ensuring sustainable financial resources for developing countries, including middle-income nations.
Sharing Vietnam's experiences, the Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam noted that Vietnam's achievement of becoming a high middle-income country is a significant milestone, the result of four decades of innovation and steadfast pursuit of inclusive development goals.
However, like many other middle-income countries, Vietnam continues to face challenges from climate change, requiring enhanced innovation capacity and competitiveness to avoid the middle-income trap.
