Young journalists spread the story of Vietnam-China friendship in the digital era

The program was co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, the Information Office of the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China), the Information Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province (China), Guangxi Daily Media Group, Southern Media Group, and the Chinese Cultural Center in Hanoi.

Attending the program, from the Vietnamese side, were Nguyen Vinh Quang, Vice President of the Vietnam-China Friendship Association; Pham Van Tuan, Editor-in-Chief of Hai Phong Newspaper and Radio, Television; Ngo Van Hai, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of VTC News; Do Ngoc Ha, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Quang Ninh Newspaper and Radio, Television.

From the Chinese side, attendees included Liu Cun, Editor-in-Chief of Guangxi Daily; Liu Yun Wei, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam; Zhang De Shan, Director of the Chinese Cultural Center in Hanoi; La Due, Deputy Director of the International Communication Center of Guangxi Daily; Ou Yang Yan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Southern International Communication Center; Zhao Ke, Executive Deputy Director of the International Education Exchange and Cooperation Center of Guangxi Arts Institute; Zhang Sang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Music College, Guangxi Arts Institute.

The pen captures the era's imprint

In his opening remarks, Mr. Liu Yun Wei, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, emphasized that 2026 marks the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 76th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China.

Over the past 76 years, the two Parties, two States, and the people of both countries have always supported each other, standing shoulder to shoulder, with the traditional friendship of “comrades and brothers” growing deeper.

Vietnam and China share a contiguous landscape and cultural roots, being good neighbors, good friends, good comrades, and good partners.

In recent years, under the strategic direction of the high-level leaders of both countries, the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership has continuously deepened and become more substantive.

Additionally, building a Vietnam-China Community with a Shared Future holds strategic significance and continues to make new strides.

According to Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, the youth are the inheritors of the traditional Vietnam-China friendship and the core force of friendly cooperation in the new era. In this, media serves as “the pen that captures the era's imprint and the bridge connecting people's hearts”.

When the youth excel in media work, the stories of friendship between the two countries will have a wide-reaching impact.

On this occasion, Minister Counselor Liu Yun Wei conveyed three expectations to the young journalists of both countries:

First, become authentic storytellers. The developmental achievements of Vietnam and China provide rich material for journalistic activities, while the friendship between the peoples of the two countries serves as a profound inspiration for journalistic works.

He expressed hope that young journalists will visit border gates, factories, cities, and rural areas to witness firsthand the changes in life and cooperation between the two countries. Thus, reporters can use their lenses and pens to authentically capture the cooperation and development process of Vietnam and China, as well as the shared aspirations of the people of both countries for a better life.

Second, be pioneers in creativity. In today's world, the methods of information dissemination are undergoing profound changes, and the youth are the agents of this change. Therefore, young journalists should actively employ new methods such as short videos, short documentaries, podcasts, artificial intelligence (AI), and other new tools to spread Vietnam-China friendship stories in a more youthful and international manner.

Third, become bridge builders for the friendship between the two countries. Minister Counselor Liu Yun Wei expressed his desire for the media agencies of both countries to use today's activities as a bridge, establishing more regular exchange and cooperation mechanisms.

Ensuring Vietnam-China friendship exists beyond historical memories

For his part, Mr. Liu Cun, Editor-in-Chief of Guangxi Daily, noted that in recent years, youth exchanges, media cooperation, and cultural exchange activities have become increasingly vibrant and practical.

As an important gateway for China towards ASEAN, Guangxi has close connections with Vietnam via land, sea, and people-to-people exchanges, playing a crucial role in promoting substantive cooperation between the two countries.

According to Mr. Liu Cun, in an era where information flows at unprecedented speeds, journalism plays a vital role in enhancing understanding between the peoples of the two countries.

He believes that journalists need to engage with reality and be close to life to reflect the true and vivid nature of the countries and peoples of Vietnam and China.

“The youth are the inheritors of friendship and the architects of the future. Media is an essential bridge that helps enhance understanding and consensus. Today, we connect the youth with the media, hoping that more young people will use their perspectives to understand each other and share their stories, ensuring that the Vietnam-China friendship continues to be preserved and inherited through these authentic and vibrant stories,” emphasized Editor-in-Chief Liu Cun.

Mr. Liu Cun also hopes that young journalists from both countries will enhance exchanges, “being both news recorders and friendship disseminators”, thereby jointly telling the stories of the young generation of Vietnam and China in the new era.

Regarding media cooperation, a representative from Guangxi Daily stated that the organization is ready to collaborate with Vietnamese media agencies to expand cooperation in co-creating content, exchanging young journalists, and converging media.

“We are ready to explore more cooperative spaces with our Vietnamese media colleagues in areas such as co-creating content, exchanging young journalists, and converging media. From one activity, one interview, we gradually move towards regular and institutionalized cooperation, so that the role of media as a bridge is maintained more sustainably and humanely,” expressed Editor-in-Chief Liu Cun.

Placing full trust in the young generation, young journalists

From the Vietnamese side, Mr. Do Ngoc Ha, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Quang Ninh Newspaper and Radio, Television, emphasized the special position of Quang Ninh, a locality serving as a border bridge between Vietnam and China and the ASEAN region.

In this context, journalists in Quang Ninh deeply understand that journalism is a pioneering force in shaping public opinion, strengthening strategic trust, and building a solid social foundation for foreign relations between the two Parties and States.

Notably, 2026 marks the 20-year journey of cooperation between Quang Ninh Newspaper and Radio, Television and key media agencies in Guangxi (China), including the Guangxi Daily Media Group and Guangxi Radio and Television Station.

Over the past two decades, the two sides have maintained news exchanges, coordinated in producing radio and television programs, published the bilingual magazine Hoa Sen, and expanded cooperation in multimedia journalism and new media.

“The joint media products not only provide information but have become reliable bridges, widely spreading the image of a peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and jointly developing border region to the people of both countries,” expressed Deputy Editor-in-Chief Do Ngoc Ha.

According to Deputy Editor-in-Chief Do Ngoc Ha, the rapid development of technology, AI, and digital platforms is profoundly changing the methods of producing, distributing, and receiving information.

Therefore, Vietnam-China media cooperation also needs to shift from traditional exchange forms to co-creating content, sharing data, and coordinating in producing modern, multi-platform media products.

In this, digital transformation opens new spaces for young journalists from both countries to connect, exchange expertise, and collaborate across borders.

From building ideas, conducting interviews, sharing data to editing and production, technology shortens distances, enabling journalists from both sides to jointly tell authentic and vivid stories about the socio-economic life and cooperative relations between Vietnam and China.

Nonetheless, Deputy Editor-in-Chief Do Ngoc Ha emphasized that as technology advances, the demand for authenticity, empathy, and responsibility from journalists becomes increasingly important.

“From these solid cooperative foundations, we place full trust in the young generation, young journalists – those who are directly inheriting and developing the media relationship between the two countries in the digital era. No matter how technology evolves, the core strength of the pen and lens lies in authenticity, empathy, and a sense of responsibility to the community,” the representative of Quang Ninh Newspaper and Radio, Television expressed hope.

Within the program's framework, two in-depth seminars were held, creating a forum for outstanding young individuals in journalism and media from both countries to exchange, discuss, and share experiences.

Ms. Pham Thuy Hang, Head of the Politics - Foreign Affairs Department of The World and Vietnam Report, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shared her perspective on the opportunities and challenges of foreign journalism in the new era.

Through this, she expressed her desire to tell Vietnam's story convincingly in the digital media era, bringing Vietnam closer to international friends to foster understanding and affection for Vietnam.

Pham Thuy Hang also emphasized the efforts of The World and Vietnam Report in promoting and enhancing Vietnam-China cooperation through diverse, high-quality, and impactful media products.

These publications contribute to spreading Vietnam-China friendship, inspiring the younger generations of both countries to continue exploring and “keeping the flame” of the connection between the two nations.
