Vietnamese Embassy hosts reception celebrating the 80th National Day in Belgium

On the evening of September 23, the Embassy of Vietnam in the Kingdom of Belgium, concurrently accredited to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, together with the Vietnamese Delegation to the European Union (EU) solemnly held ceremony to mark the 80th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Approximately 450 guests attended the event, including First Vice President of the Belgian Senate Andries Gryffroy, President of the Brussels Regional Parliament Bertin Mampka, President of the Wallonia Parliament Willy Borsus, Chief of the Belgian King's Cabinet Vincent Houssiau, Secretary-General of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Theodora Gentzis, Chairman of the International Trade Committee, European Parliament Bernd Lange; Director for Southeast Asia at the European External Action Service Leila Fernández Stembridge, along with numerous officials from the Royal, government, and federal and regional parliaments of Belgium, EU institutions, ambassadors, chargé d'affaires, and embassy staff from various countries, diplomatic corps representatives in Brussels, and representatives from businesses, scholars, and media from Belgium and the EU.
From Vietnam, all staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium/EU, representatives from various agencies, organizations, businesses, the Vietnamese community, and students in Belgium and Luxembourg attended the ceremony.

In his speech, Ambassador Nguyen Van Thao reviewed the significant developmental achievements of the country over the past 80 years in political, economic, cultural-social, and foreign affairs. These results stem from the persistent efforts, unity, and dedication of the Vietnamese people across generations under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Vietnam reaffirms its commitment to comprehensive international integration, green and sustainable development, and being an active, proactive, and responsible member of the international community, contributing to peace, stability, and common development.
Regarding relations with partners, 2025 marks 35 years of Vietnam-EU relations and five years of implementing the EVFTA, expanding cooperation in trade, science and technology, digital economy, climate change response, culture-tourism, and defense-security.
Vietnam-Belgium relations continue to grow robustly, highlighted by the State visit of the King and Queen of Belgium in April 2025, opening new cooperation potentials in high technology, logistics, healthcare, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture.
With Luxembourg, both sides effectively implement the Green Finance Partnership, aiming to expand into other potential areas in the future.
During the celebration, guests congratulated Vietnam on its significant achievements over the past 80 years, especially in renovation, integration, and sustainable development.

Secretary-General of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Theodora Gentzis shared her impression of Vietnam's dynamic development and increasingly important role in the Asia-Pacific region and internationally, affirming that Belgium will continue to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in areas of mutual interest. Emphasizing Vietnam as an important partner of Belgium in Southeast Asia, Theodora Gentzis expressed her desire for both sides to continue effectively implementing bilateral dialogue and cooperation mechanisms.

According to Chairman of the International Trade Committee, European Parliament Bernd Lange, amid increasingly complex international and regional situations, Vietnam and the EU need to come closer and promote mutually beneficial cooperation.
Bernd Lange affirmed that the EVFTA has been bringing tangible benefits to both sides, serving as a model of cooperation between the EU and a developing country, while expressing hope that Vietnam and the EU will continue to maximize the potential for economic-trade cooperation, aiming for sustainable and inclusive development.

First Vice President of the Belgian Senate Andries Gryffroy highly appreciated the achievements in parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting comprehensive understanding and cooperation between Vietnam, Belgium, and the EU.
Representative of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Leila Fernández Stembridge acknowledged Vietnam's active and responsible role in regional and global issues, expressing confidence that EU-Vietnam cooperation will continue to grow strongly in the future.

The ceremony took place in a friendly and warm atmosphere with a special traditional art program performed by artists from the Vietnam National Music and Dance Theater, along with dishes rich in Vietnamese culinary identity, leaving a strong impression on international friends in Belgium.
