Celebrating Vietnam’s 80th National Day in Wellington: Achievements inspire partners like New Zealand

WVR - On September 22, at New Zealand's Parliament House – a national symbol in the capital Wellington, the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand solemnly organized the celebration of the 80th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

The celebration was attended by distinguished guests including New Zealand's Speaker of the House Gerry Brownlee and Politburo Member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilasation Nguyen Trong Nghia, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation visiting New Zealand.

Also present at the celebration were Deputy Secretary at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Grahame Morton, Vietnamese-origin MP Pham Thi Ngoc Lan, and numerous guests including leaders from various ministries, agencies, government organizations, localities, and cities of New Zealand; representatives from friendship, educational, and business organizations, New Zealand friends; Ambassadors, High Commissioners, diplomatic corps representatives; Vietnamese officials, students at universities, and representatives of Vietnamese community associations in New Zealand.

In his speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand Phan Minh Giang emphasized that over 80 years of building and development, Vietnam has overcome numerous difficulties and challenges, achieving great, historically significant accomplishments, establishing its current stature, potential, and international prestige.

Affirming that the country is at a new historical starting point to rise and soar, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang expressed his hope that all Vietnamese people, both domestically and abroad, unite and work together to build a prosperous, civilized, and happy Vietnam.

To achieve this, alongside the continuous efforts of generations of Vietnamese people, is the invaluable cooperation and support of international friends, including New Zealand. On this occasion, the Ambassador expressed deep gratitude to international friends, the people of New Zealand, and the local Vietnamese community, who have always supported and made practical contributions to the cause of building a peaceful, unified, happy, prosperous, and developing Vietnam.

Welcoming the strong development of bilateral relations in recent times, Ambassador Phan Minh Giang expressed confidence that, based on the relationship nurtured by both countries over the past 50 years, along with determination, effort, and close cooperation from both sides, the Vietnam-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to develop more comprehensively and deeply, contributing to building a prosperous and sustainable future for the people of both countries.

Attending the celebration as an honoured guest, New Zealand's Speaker of the House Gerry Brownlee warmly congratulated the 80th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, shared the joy with the Vietnamese people, and expressed admiration for Vietnam's developmental achievements over the past 80 years. He also expressed a desire for the two countries to continue to work closely, effectively implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, bringing practical benefits to the people of both nations.

In his congratulatory remarks on Vietnam's 80th National Day, Deputy Secretary Grahame Morton, representing the New Zealand Government, expressed admiration for Vietnam's extraordinary and remarkable developmental achievements in recent years. He also highly appreciated Vietnam's strong commitments to ensuring a peaceful environment, multilateral cooperation, and sustainable development, contributing to a better future for the people. The New Zealand Deputy Secretary affirmed that these achievements reflect Vietnam's potential, vision, and unity, inspiring not only the region but also partners like New Zealand.

Highlighting that the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has opened a new chapter of cooperation in Vietnam-New Zealand relations, the New Zealand government representative expressed optimism about the strong and sustainable development of bilateral relations in the future, with many potentials and opportunities for cooperation ahead.

At the celebration, guests reviewed a photo exhibition showcasing 50 years of Vietnam-New Zealand bilateral relations, as well as the country and people of Vietnam.

During the event, guests enjoyed a special art program, leaving a deep impression on New Zealand and international friends, while also evoking pride and love for the homeland among the overseas Vietnamese community in New Zealand. On this occasion, guests also enjoyed the cuisine and traditional dishes characteristic of Vietnam.
