The meeting drew many leading local companies in agriculture, rice production, health care, tourism, water treatment, and infrastructure building, including ICON, HunterNet, Sunrice, Veolia and Webjet.

PM Phuc lauded the cooperation between these companies and their Vietnamese peers, proposing they continue expanding coordination and help transfer technology, equipment, human resources management and training to Vietnamese firms, while giving suitable material and technology prices to enhance capacity for Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Government leader, who is on his official visit to Australia from March 14-18, said that Vietnam is speeding up the equitisation of many large firms as well as   those operating in important areas of the economy such as power production and retail, mining, finance-banking and telecommunications services.

Vietnam encourages Australian businesses to engage in this process together with domestic and foreign enterprises, he stated.

He said he will direct ministries, sectors and localities to continue working with the companies to seek suitable cooperation opportunities and promptly support them in finding location for their facilities and material areas as well as in human resources supply.

He suggested that the Australian firms discuss with Vietnamese relevant agencies on details of their planned projects in Vietnam.

The PM expressed his hope that with their experience and technology, Australian firms will continue giving consultations and sharing experience with Vietnamese businesses in project management, while giving solutions and advanced tools to reduce investment costs and make projects become more friendly to the environment.

Noting Vietnam’s great potential in agriculture and food, he asked Australian firms to step up collaboration with Vietnamese peers in the fields.

Representatives from Australian firms spoke highly of Vietnam’s economic growth and its improved investment environment and institutional reform.

They said they are keen on expanding investment in Vietnam in information technology, telecommunications, renewable energy (solar, wind and bio energy), fund management, agriculture and tourism.

They also asked for support of the Vietnamese PM and Government in developing projects in Vietnam.
