The session was attended by numerous ministers, senior officials responsible for labor and social affairs from various countries, and representatives from relevant international organizations.

In his opening remarks, the President of the 80th UN General Assembly emphasized that social justice, poverty eradication, and inclusive development are linked to global peace and stability. He warned that climate change and inequality could increase the risk of instability without comprehensive policies. The President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) called for increased investment in social welfare and services, considering them the foundation for resilience and long-term growth.

During the general discussion, countries highlighted people-centered policies, the expansion of social protection, the promotion of sustainable employment, and support for vulnerable groups. Developing countries emphasized the need for financial resources, technology, and capacity building.

Speaking at the Session, Diplomatic Minister Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Deputy Head of Vietnam's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, affirmed that social development and social justice are pillars of Vietnam's national development strategy, with a focus on improving people's lives as a measure of growth.

The Vietnamese representative shared that over the past five years, the multidimensional poverty rate has decreased from 5.2% to 1.3%, and per capita GDP has increased 1.4 times, positioning Vietnam among the upper middle-income countries. The policy system continues to be refined, with the new Employment Law effective from 2026 expanding protection for informal workers and enhancing labor market services.

Women make up over 30% of the National Assembly delegates and nearly half of the workforce. Health insurance covers 96% of the population, aiming for universal coverage by 2030. Public education is free nationwide, contributing to the progress of achieving quality education goals among the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Deputy Head of Vietnam's Mission also proposed strengthening policy coordination and integration through a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach; integrating gender equality into labor and social policies and promoting women's economic empowerment; enhancing digital inclusion through infrastructure and digital skills investment in rural and remote areas, along with boosting international cooperation and support for developing countries.
