Strengthening and developing traditional friendly cooperation in law and justice between Vietnam and Cuba

On January 30 in Havana, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Tinh held talks with Cuban Minister of Justice Rosabel Gamón Verde. Both sides highly appreciated the cooperation results achieved so far and affirmed that cooperation in law and justice is a practical area for bilateral relations.
The two sides signed a Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Justice of Vietnam and the Ministry of Justice of Cuba for the 2026-2027 period, establishing a framework for implementing specific cooperation activities in the future.
On the same day, the two Ministries of Justice launched the project “Technical Support for the Cuban Ministry of Justice in Enhancing Capacity for Lawmaking and Law Enforcement”. Deputy Minister Nguyễn Thanh Tịnh and Cuban Deputy Minister of Justice Pilar Alicia Varona signed the 2026 Activity Plan for the project, marking the official implementation of technical cooperation content.
During the visit, Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Tinh paid a courtesy call to Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court of Cuba Oscar Manuel Silveira Martínez.
The two sides discussed enhancing cooperation between the judicial bodies of the two countries, particularly in judicial reform, law enforcement, capacity building for officials, and ensuring human rights and civil rights in judicial activities.
From February 2 to 4, the delegation participated in the fifth JURISCUBA International Conference in Havana. Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Tinh delivered a significant speech at the opening ceremony, sharing Vietnam's experiences in perfecting laws for development, building a rule-of-law state, promoting digital transformation, and enhancing legal access for citizens and businesses.
In addition to official activities, on January 29, the delegation visited the Fidel Castro Center. On the morning of February 2, the delegation, along with staff and employees of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba, laid flowers in tribute at the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in Havana to commemorate the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the success of the Party's 14th Congress.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Quang Long participated in several important activities with the delegation. During a working session with the Embassy, the delegation was briefed by Ambassador Lê Quang Long on Cuba's socio-economic situation and the Vietnamese community in the host country. He also proposed enhancing digitalization and data interconnection of civil status and residency with Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to facilitate citizen protection work.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Tinh acknowledged the recommendations and highly appreciated the Embassy's efforts in contributing to strengthening the special solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba.
The working visit of the Vietnamese Ministry of Justice delegation to Cuba successfully completed its set agenda, continuing to foster the traditional friendly cooperation between the two countries in the field of law and justice.
