To ensure relevance to current realities and developmental requirements, on June 14, 2025, the MOET announced a review and adjustment of certain contents in the 2018 General Education Curriculum. The adjustments come in the context of nationwide administrative restructuring under Resolution 202/2025/QH15, directly affecting subjects such as History and Geography (grades 4, 5, and 9), Geography (grade 12), and History and Economic & Legal Education (grade 10).

Updates include place names, statistics, maps and socio-economic information, with minimal changes to the textbooks themselves and more guidance provided to teachers for flexible implementation.

Regarding textbook revisions following administrative boundary changes and the implementation of the two-tier government model, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Tung, Member of the Members’ Council and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of VEPH, stated that the publishing house had instructed its affiliated units and editorial boards to review and compile data on achievement requirements, knowledge, statistics, place names, maps, charts, and socio-economic information related to the shifts. This information will then be reported to the MOET for direction and approval.

Once the MOET issues updated program content for certain subjects, as announced on June 14, 2025, VEPH will proceed to revise the textbooks and resubmit them for appraisal and approval in accordance with regulations.

Mr. Tung emphasized that textbook revisions are based on principles of meeting achievement standards, fully updating knowledge, statistics, place names, maps, charts, and socio-economic data, while minimizing changes to the original content. Teaching methods and content will continue to evolve toward fostering students’ qualities and competencies.

"VEPH has developed domestic textbooks that closely approach the quality of textbooks from other countries around the world. We focus on scientific rigor and modern standards," Mr. Tung stressed.

While waiting for textbooks to be updated in line with administrative boundaries and the two-tier government model, under MOET directives, teachers and students will continue using current textbooks.

At the same time, VEPH is responsible for proactively selecting and adjusting materials, lessons, and teaching themes to suit local realities and the two-tier government model. In the near future, the MOET will issue directives and guidance for localities and schools to ensure continuous, seamless, and practical implementation.

Mr. Tung also noted that VEPH will actively support schools and teachers in using current textbooks in line with MOET guidance.

Currently, textbooks for the 2025–2026 school year are still being printed and stocked for distribution to schools. It is expected that by July, the supply will basically meet the demand for students and teachers in the new academic year.

The 2018 General Education Curriculum was designed with a focus on developing students’ qualities, competencies and allows for multiple sets of textbooks under a single curriculum. This approach enables schools to choose the most suitable textbooks for their teaching conditions and regional characteristics, while encouraging diversity and creativity in teaching and learning.

Among these, textbooks from the VEPH have gained strong support from teachers and students thanks to their outstanding advantages in teaching and learning processes.

Content-wise, compared to textbooks from other publishers, VEPH textbooks are compiled with scientific, modern, and practical standards, focusing on core knowledge that is easy to apply in actual teaching.

Lessons aim to develop students’ competencies and qualities while integrating a system of practical and experiential activities, enabling students to acquire knowledge more actively, creatively, and enthusiastically. In particular, the books provide more opportunities for hands-on practice, encourage self-learning, and foster independent and creative thinking.

In terms of presentation, the textbooks are aesthetically pleasing, engaging, and suited to the specific characteristics of the Literature subject. They are printed in color on high-quality paper, with large format, clear, readable fonts and are firmly bound. The system of illustrations is diverse and vivid, harmoniously combined with text to create visual effects that stimulate imagination and inspire students’ passion for discovery.
