Vietnam attends Peace Conference celebrating 80th anniversary of anti-fascist victory in China

To reflect on lessons from past wars to cherish the value of peace and discuss ways to maintain global peace and stability, the event aims to promote international solidarity and cooperation for the common prosperity of all nations.
On the morning of September 26, the opening session of the Conference was taken place, chaired by Peng Qinghua, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, President of the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament.
The event was attended by over 150 delegates, including 120 international representatives from 60 countries, comprising leaders, former leaders, embassy representatives, political organizations, research institutes, and peace organizations, with many members from the World Peace Council.
Chinese delegates included representatives from the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China, leaders of central agencies, local governments, and leaders of member organizations of the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament.
Notable figures included Ulrich Maurer, Former President of the Swiss Confederation; Abhisit Vejjajiva, Former Prime Minister of Thailand; Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, Former Interim Prime Minister of Pakistan; Sergey Nikolaevich Baburin, Former Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma, President of the Association of International Peace Foundations; and Iraklis Tsavdaridis, representing the World Peace Council.

In his opening remarks, Peng Qinghua emphasized the historical significance and great stature of the Chinese People's and Army's resistance against Japanese Fascism, asserting that China made a significant contribution to the global anti-fascist victory, ending World War II, and shaping the era of globalization and prosperity over the past 80 years.
He affirmed that in the current rapidly changing, increasingly complex, and unpredictable world, it is more crucial than ever for countries, regardless of size or strength, to contribute to efforts to safeguard global peace and prosperity.
Recalling the speech by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Conference on the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) with five core principles—sovereign equality; respect for international law; steadfast multilateralism; a people-centered approach; and action with tangible results—he asserted that the GGI reflects China's efforts and responsibility for world peace as a member of the United Nations Security Council.
International delegates highly valued the significance of the Conference, seeing it as an opportunity not only to recall past lessons but also to exchange, share experiences, and take joint action for world peace, stability, and development, passing the torch of peace to the younger generation.
Many delegates expressed agreement with China's initiation of the GGI amid challenges facing the United Nations and multilateralism.
Speaking at the "Peace Heritage" session, Uong Chu Luu, Chairman of the Vietnam Peace Committee, congratulated and appreciated the organization of the Peace Conference, which helps connect peace organizations and movements worldwide, inspiring and educating the younger generation about preserving peace heritage.
He affirmed that Vietnam consistently pursues an independent, self-reliant, diversified, and multilateral foreign policy, being a friend, a reliable partner, and an active, responsible member of the international community; while adhering to the "four no's" defense policy aimed at creating and maintaining a peaceful, stable environment to focus on national development, continuously improving people's lives, and contributing positively to efforts for regional and global peace and prosperity.

In the current context of severe threats to world peace, it is more crucial than ever for nations to respect and uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, including fundamental principles of respecting independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, resolving disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, refraining from threats or use of force, and engaging in equal, mutually beneficial cooperation.
Discussing the role of people to people diplomacy, Chairman Uong Chu Luu stated that people's organizations in each country play a vital role in promoting understanding, solidarity, dialogue, enhancing trust and cooperation among nations, creating a positive social foundation, contributing to preserving and promoting the world's peace heritage.
In the future, the Vietnam Peace Committee will continue to foster its traditional good cooperation with the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament and other progressive people's organizations worldwide in pursuit of this goal.
