A significant milestone in Vietnam-Japan relations
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Trần Quang Phương emphasised that over the past 80 years, Vietnam has overcome numerous challenges to become one of the world's top 35 economies, with trade volume among the 20 largest nations. Vietnam has engaged in 17 free trade agreements, established diplomatic relations with 194 countries, and aims to become a developed nation with high income by 2045.
The Vice Chairman affirmed: “Japan has been an indispensable companion – a trusted and close friend on this journey. Vietnam and Japan have elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world since 2023, laying a new foundation for increasingly extensive cooperation.”
Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations were established in September 1973, marking 52 years. The two countries have become strategic partners on this foundation, connected in various fields from politics, economy, and culture to education, science, and technology. They are now expanding into new areas such as digital transformation, green transition, and innovation.

| Vietnam Consul General in Fukuoka, Vũ Chi Mai, assesses that, as a bridge, the Consulate General has contributed over the past 15 years to bringing Vietnam closer to the Japanese people, while encouraging the expatriates' connection to their homeland. |
Speaking at the event, Vietnam Consul General in Fukuoka Vu Chi Mai reviewed the 15-year journey of formation and development of the diplomatic representative office in the region.
According to 2025 data, Vietnam ranks second in the foreign markets with which Fukuoka businesses wish to expand cooperation. Exports from Vietnam to Japan reached over $6.3 billion in the first quarter of this year, an increase of over 12%, demonstrating mutual trust and economic ties. Opening a direct flight route from Vietnam to Hiroshima in May 2024 shortens the geographical distance. It enhances connections between people and businesses, opening up new opportunities for investment cooperation, tourism, cultural exchange, and education between Vietnam and the Chugoku region. We continue to promote opening a direct flight route to Okinawa.
“Since 2009, the Vietnam Consulate General in Fukuoka has consistently worked to connect the community, protect the rights of expatriates, and promote trade, investment, labour, and cultural-educational cooperation between Vietnam and the Kyushu provinces. Today's achievements are thanks to the valuable support and companionship of the Japanese government and local friends.”
As a bridge, the Consulate General has contributed to bringing Vietnam closer to the Japanese people, while encouraging the expatriates' connection to their homeland.
