Attending the Dialogue were Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy; representatives from the Party Central Committee's Commission for Policy and Strategy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper; Director of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, Professor Nguyen Thi Lien Hang; Senior Advisor of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, Mr. Thomas Vallely; along with several Vietnamese and international businesses and associations.
In her opening remarks, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang assessed that the world situation is becoming increasingly complex and rapidly changing with rising instability and uncertainty. In this context, Vietnam remains steadfast in pursuing peace, stability, and sustainable development, vigorously implementing socio-economic development goals through efforts to build an independent, self-reliant economy linked with deep international integration; consistently following an independent, self-reliant, peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and multilateral foreign policy, diversifying international relations.
The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam values the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States; emphasizing that bilateral relations over the past three decades have continuously developed and deepened, evidenced by vibrant exchanges at all levels, increasingly robust economic and science and technology cooperation, and ever-closer ties between the peoples of the two countries.
Highlighting the strong cooperation in education and training between Vietnam and the United States, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang stressed that exchange programs like Fulbright and partnerships between universities in both countries not only promote knowledge exchange, enhance human resource quality, and improve institutional capacity, but also help bridge cultural differences and ensure that both nations benefit from shared progress.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang expressed confidence that the Vietnam Leadership Program (VLP) initiative will continue the success of the Vietnam Executive Leadership Program (VELP), affirming support and hoping for the VLP to be implemented soon.
During the discussion session, U.S. experts, scholars, and delegates highly appreciated the direction of the Party and State of Vietnam in the new development phase, especially in considering science and technology, green transition, and digital transformation as main growth drivers, and viewing human resource development as a key factor.
Notably, the dynamic and pioneering development of Vietnam's private sector, especially in science and technology, was positively acknowledged. Delegates also proposed specific solutions to vigorously implement the Party's policies on science and technology development, innovation, and digital transformation, institutional and legal reform, private sector development, and energy security assurance, thereby contributing to realizing Vietnam's goals of rapid and sustainable growth.
