With the theme “Connecting memories – Igniting creativity”, Photo Hanoi '25 offers a unique perspective on the world through the lens, transforming Hanoi into an open art space, sparking creativity and expanding global cultural dialogue.

Speaking at the opening, Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Bach Lien Huong stated that France and Vietnam, in general, and Hanoi, in particular, despite geographical distance, have always maintained a strong, positive relationship across various fields.
The French Embassy in Vietnam has consistently played a pioneering role in actively promoting development cooperation between the two sides, and Hanoi always appreciates and values these sentiments.
Ms. Bach Lien Huong affirmed that this is an opportunity for the capital's public, photography enthusiasts, especially the youth, to experience and practice, offering a different perspective on contemporary photography in Vietnam and internationally, contributing to promoting the image of the country and the people of the capital through various lenses.

Ms. Bach Lien Huong emphasized that Hanoi always values promoting cultural exchanges with the Republic of France in particular and international countries and partners in general. The city is committed to continuing to expand cooperation, building and implementing new projects, contributing to strengthening diplomatic relations, solidarity, and friendship between Vietnam and countries and organizations worldwide.
Sharing at the event, Mr. Eric Soulier, Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Activities of the French Embassy, Director of the French Institute in Vietnam, expressed gratitude to the delegates and stakeholders for their efforts in coordinating the organization of the Photo Hanoi 2025 Biennale.

Mr. Eric Soulier stated that the entire team worked tirelessly to deliver a complete biennale. He emphasized that each stage in the organization process holds significant importance, especially the contributions of curators, photographers, and artists participating in Photo Hanoi 2025.
He added: “Today is a rainy day, and in French, there is a saying "Un mariage pluvieux est un mariage heureux" – "A rainy wedding is a happy wedding". Therefore, I believe a rainy Biennale will be a successful biennale.”
The Director of the French Institute in Vietnam affirmed that Photo Hanoi is gradually establishing itself as a major photography event, on par with international festivals, with a unique identity nurtured by Vietnamese culture and creativity.

Jonathan Baker, Chief Representative of the UNESCO Office in Hanoi, expressed hope that Photo Hanoi 2025 will be a great success.
He noted that from a small idea, the event has become a cultural movement, illuminating the city with images and emotions, transforming Hanoi's streets and heritage into open galleries, presenting the capital as a vibrant stage.
He emphasized: “Photo Hanoi 2025 reflects Hanoi's vision as a Creative City in the UNESCO network, where creativity is not confined to cultural institutions but permeates daily life, felt and shared by the community. The event also demonstrates the power of collaboration between artists, authorities, and international partners in creating a vibrant and inclusive cultural life.”

The Belgian artist representative, Mr. Jean-François Spricigo, expressed his honor to be present at the opening ceremony, where the brilliant light of photography merges with human emotions.
For him, the exhibition not only opens a creative journey but also serves as a moment of meeting for kindred spirits.
“Art is the language that connects people beyond geographical and cultural boundaries, opening the possibility of understanding and empathy in diversity,” he shared.

The opening highlight of the event is the exhibition “Nostalgia for Cities”.
The frames in the exhibition take viewers through layers of memory, from the misty streets of Hanoi to the sunset-drenched squares of Europe.
Each photo not only captures a moment but also opens a dialogue about urban memory and the relationship between people and the ever-changing living spaces.
Notably, the public will witness for the first time the creative voices of very young artists who have boldly stepped into the international art scene.

| Photo Hanoi '25 runs throughout November at various cultural and public spaces in the capital, such as Exhibition House 45 Trang Tien, 93 Dinh Tien Hoang, Cultural and Art Center 22 Hang Buom, the French Institute in Vietnam, Japan Foundation, the open space of Dien Hong Garden, and the Temple of Literature. Throughout the event, the public can visit 22 exhibitions and nearly 30 artistic activities such as seminars, workshops, outdoor photo screenings, artist interactions, and community photography education activities, promising to deliver unique experiences rich in creativity and art. |
