On the morning of May 26, in Hanoi, the Vietnam National Mine Action Centre (VNMAC) held a summary conference and award ceremony for the online contest Raising Awareness on Post-War Mine and Explosive Accident Prevention in Vietnam 2026.

The program was attended by Ms. Ramla Khalidi, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Vietnam; Ms. Won Ji Young, Deputy Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Vietnam (KOICA).

Originating from Vietnam's practical needs and in response to the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action on April 4, VNMAC coordinated with relevant agencies, ministries, sectors, and localities to organize the 2026 nationwide online contest. Additionally, in collaboration with KOICA and UNDP, the online contest was launched within the framework of the project Mine Action for the Vietnam-Republic of Korea Peace Village (KVPVP project) implemented in three provinces: Hue, Quang Ngai, and Gia Lai.

At the ceremony, Colonel Nghiem Xuan Long, Deputy General Director of VNMAC and Head of the Contest Organizing Committee, stated that the planning process was implemented closely, adhering to practical requirements, ensuring practicality, effectiveness, cost-efficiency, and high community impact.

The contest content focused on promoting four main issues: knowledge of identifying explosive ordnance; skills to prevent mine accidents; methods of handling explosive ordnance detection; policies for mine victims; thereby raising awareness and changing behavior among the public in preventing explosive ordnance accidents.

Colonel Nghiem Xuan Long further informed that VNMAC upgraded the online contest software, optimized the interface, increased the ability to handle large numbers of simultaneous users, and supplemented the question bank suitable for various groups, especially students, youth union members, and residents in areas still affected by post-war mines and explosives.

Colonel Le Quang Hop, Deputy General Director of VNMAC, stated that during the organization period from April 4 to May 4, 2026, the contest attracted over 1.8 million participants, creating a positive impact, contributing to raising awareness and changing behavior in preventing mine accidents.

Based on the contest results, the Organizing Committee recognized the results for 23 national winners, including: 1 First Prize; 3 Second Prizes; 4 Third Prizes; and 15 Consolation Prizes.

For the contest within the KVPVP project in Hue, Gia Lai, and Quang Ngai, there were 189,132 participants. The organizing committee acknowledged and proposed awards: 1 First Prize, 2 Second Prizes, 3 Third Prizes, and 6 Consolation Prizes.

In addition to recognizing and honoring individuals with outstanding achievements in the contest, Colonel Le Quang Hop stated that this event further affirms the determination of all levels, sectors, and the entire society, as well as the international community's cooperation in addressing post-war mine consequences, ensuring safety for the people.

The organizing committee believes that through the contest, humanitarian messages and knowledge about preventing mine and explosive accidents will continue to spread more widely in the community, contributing to enhancing social responsibility, building a peaceful and sustainable life for all Vietnamese people.

Expressing delight at witnessing the active participation of students, teachers, youth organizations, and local communities across Vietnam, Deputy Director of KOICA in Vietnam Won Ji Young emphasized that awareness saves lives, knowledge prevents accidents, and communication creates change.

By encouraging the public – especially the youth – to learn about the risks of mines and explosives and widely disseminate safety messages, the contest is an initiative contributing to building a culture of prevention and a sense of responsibility in the community.

Resident Representative of UNDP in Vietnam Ramla Khalidi stated that this is not only an occasion to celebrate the success of a contest but also to honor the shared commitment to enhancing learning, practicing safety, and protecting the community.

Ms. Ramla Khalidi emphasized that mine and explosive accident prevention education must continue to reach everyone, especially people in remote areas, people with disabilities, children who do not attend school, and ethnic minorities, to ensure no one is left behind.
