Foreign Ministry coordinates assistance following tourist boat accident in Phu Quoc

Immediately after receiving information about the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a diplomatic note to the Embassy of India in Hanoi and the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City. The Vietnamese Embassy in India also sent a diplomatic note to the Ministry of External Affairs of India to inform them of the incident. Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung sent a message of condolence to Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and the families of the victims, affirming that the Vietnamese Government has directed relevant agencies to implement all necessary measures to support the victims. Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung also instructed units within the Ministry and Vietnamese Representative Missions in India to closely coordinate with the Embassy of India in Hanoi, the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, and relevant agencies to provide timely support and continue to cooperate with India in addressing the aftermath of this tragic accident.
A delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, along with leaders from the Consular Department and the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, directly visited the scene to closely coordinate with local authorities, the Embassy of India in Hanoi, and the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City to support the victims. They guided the necessary procedures for the funeral arrangements of the deceased tourists and expedited the repatriation of the remains. The Indian Ambassador to Vietnam stated that Indian leaders are very concerned about the incident; they expressed their appreciation for the concern shown by Vietnamese leaders regarding the incident, praised, and deeply thanked the Vietnamese authorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, and local entities for their timely and responsible handling of the incident and their decision to provide financial support to the victims, which has helped to comfort and alleviate the pain of loss.

Regarding the remains of the deceased tourists, the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with relevant authorities to hand them over to the Ho Chi Minh City Forensic Center for storage and preservation. Simultaneously, the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City arranged for staff to be on duty 24/7, established two task forces for legal support and to receive the victims' families, and coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security on entry procedures for representatives from the Tamil Nadu state Government to come to Vietnam on behalf of the families to handle the incident.
In the coming days, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to closely coordinate with the People's Committee of An Giang Province, the Phu Quoc Special Zone, and relevant agencies, as well as the Vietnamese Embassy in India, the Embassy of India in Hanoi, and the Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, to closely monitor the situation, urgently carry out consular work, protect citizens, and expedite the repatriation of the deceased tourists' remains to India as per the families' requests.
