Official opening of the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal

On the afternoon of November 25, the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal held its opening ceremony.

Attending the ceremony on the Vietnamese side were Phan Dinh Trac, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Anh Tuan; Deputy Director of the Supreme People's Procuracy Tran Hai Quan; Deputy Minister of Justice Mai Luong Khoi; and Vietnamese Ambassador to Portugal Nguyen Manh Thang.

On the Portuguese side, attendees included Ana Isabel Xavier, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs responsible for Diplomacy and Cooperation; Francisco Ribeiro Telles, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Alberto Laplaine Guimarães, Secretary-General of the Lisbon City Council.

In his speech at the ceremony, Phan Dinh Trac affirmed that the opening of the embassy not only creates a direct bridge among Vietnam (the gateway to Asia-Pacific) and Portugal (a hub of innovation and a gateway to Europe) and the Community of Portuguese Language Countries – but also brings practical benefits to the people of both nations, contributing positively to peace, stability, and development in each region.

Phan Dinh Trac urged the embassy's staff to strive to excellently fulfill the tasks entrusted by the Party, State, and People; he also expressed gratitude and requested that Portuguese authorities at all levels continue to support and facilitate the effective operation of the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal, thereby strengthening and developing the good relations between the two countries.

He expressed confidence that the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal will excel in its role as a diplomatic representative, serving as a bridge to deepen and substantiate the relationship between the two countries, meeting the aspirations and interests of their peoples, while also contributing positively to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

On behalf of the Portuguese Government, Anna Isabel Savier congratulated the Vietnamese Embassy in Portugal on its official opening and operation; she praised the embassy's active role in promoting delegation exchanges and fostering cooperation between localities and businesses of the two countries during its establishment. She affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Portuguese government agencies will closely cooperate with the embassy to promote deeper, more substantive, and more effective cooperation between the two countries.

Representatives from various ministries, sectors, and localities with cooperation ties with Vietnam, as well as members of the diplomatic corps and a large number of Vietnamese expatriates in Portugal, attended and congratulated the embassy's opening ceremony.
