From October 17-20, Ambassador Nguyen Luong Ngoc and the Embassy staff conducted a working visit to Esfahan Province. They met with Governor Mehdi Jamalinejad, Mayor of Esfahan City Ali Ghasemzadeh, and the President of the Esfahan Chamber of Commerce, Mines, Industry, and Agriculture. The delegation also hosted the Vietnam-Esfahan Business Forum (online with Hanoi) attended by nearly 120 Vietnamese and Iranian businesses, and visited the Esfahan Exhibition Centre.
Provincial officials expressed admiration and high regard for the indomitable spirit and resilience of the Vietnamese people during the resistance against foreign invaders. They were also impressed by Vietnam's outstanding achievements and dynamic development in recent years.
Through discussions, the Embassy and the province agreed on a number of specific and feasible measures and programs. These include plans to participate in tourism events, film festivals, cultural exchanges, trade fairs between the two countries, delegation exchanges, the potential twinning of Esfahan with Vietnamese provinces, and addressing business challenges faced by companies from both nations.
The delegation also conducted a field visit to the Esfahan Science and Technology Town (ISTT), a facility spanning over 520 hectares with more than 700 knowledge-based companies and 10,000 employees (the largest in Iran), of which 10% are AI companies.
The city was established to provide an innovation incubator with preferential policies similar to free trade zones to foster innovation and competitiveness among knowledge-based companies in AI, biotechnology, computer science, energy, information and communication technology, manufacturing, and automation...
The embassy and ISTT agreed to organize online conferences to promote cooperation and the import-export of scientific and technological products between ISTT and Vietnamese organizations and businesses.
The delegation also paid respects at the grave of Alexandre de Rhodes, a key figure in the invention and development of the Vietnamese script in the 17th century.
Located just 450 km from Tehran via highway, Esfahan, known as "Esfahan nesf-e jahan" (half of the world), is Iran's third-largest city and a long-standing cultural center, renowned for its handicrafts both in Iran and globally.

With over 2,000 years of history, Esfahan has been chosen as the capital of Iran four times and has six UNESCO World Heritage sites. Naqsh-e Jahan Square, from the reign of Shah Abbas, remains intact today and is one of the largest squares in the world (nearly 90,000 m2).
Today, Esfahan is centrally located in Iran and continues to be a leading economic center, excelling in energy, petrochemicals, chemicals, minerals, agriculture, food, tourism, and holding a strategic central position.
Esfahan is also a leading hub in Iran for science, technology, innovation, and building a knowledge-based economy. Top educational institutions like Esfahan University and Esfahan University of Technology attract over 50,000 students, nurturing talent in engineering, science, and the arts.
In 2025, Esfahan was voted as the Asian Tourism City.
Here, people of various religions live in harmony, including Judaism, Islam, and notably the Armenian Christian community, which has resided here for 400 years. Today, 8,000 residents and 13 Christian churches remain, contributing positively to Esfahan's development.
