The first academic year implementing resolution 71

The sound of school drums heralds the start of a new academic year. However, the opening ceremony for the 2025-2026 school year is not just an annual event; it holds special significance, marking a new beginning amid strategic changes in the country.

This is the first school year taking place in a new context as the nation completes the reorganization of administrative units, implements a two-tier local government model, and begins the implementation of Resolution 71-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2025, by the Politburo on breakthrough development in education and training.

Reflecting on the past, Vietnam's education has achieved commendable successes. However, to meet the country's developmental needs in the digital era, education requires significant transformation. Resolution 71-NQ/TW serves as the guiding star for this change. It is not just a policy document but a clarion call, an aspiration to elevate Vietnam's education and training to international standards.

The 2025-2026 school year unfolds on the foundation of a streamlined and more efficient administrative system. This facilitates the implementation of educational policies, from resource allocation to infrastructure development. Each locality, post-merger, can focus resources on investing in education, creating more modern, quality schools.

However, alongside these advantages, the road ahead is fraught with challenges. The two-tier government model requires seamless coordination between management levels, from central to local, to ensure policies are implemented uniformly and effectively. Teachers and students also need to adapt to changes in curricula and teaching methods to meet new demands.

For success, the implementation of Resolution 71 requires the collective effort of society. Schools need to become creative environments, continuously innovating teaching methods. Teachers should be empowered to enhance their professional skills, and students should be encouraged to develop personal abilities and critical thinking.

In a letter to the Education sector on the occasion of the new academic year 2025 - 2026, President Luong Cuong expressed his hope that the Education sector will focus on effectively implementing the school year's theme: “Discipline - Creativity - Breakthrough - Development; continuing to aim for the comprehensive formation and development of individuals in knowledge, ethics, skills, courage, and aspiration, meeting the rapid and sustainable development requirements of the country in the new development era of the Vietnamese nation.”

President Luong Cuong emphasized: “On the eve of the new school year, I trust that students, pupils, and learners will continue to nurture dreams, continuously study, and train to become patriotic, responsible, creative citizens with great aspirations to build a prosperous and happy country. I hope teachers, educational managers, and workers in the Education sector will always maintain their passion, love for the profession, and continuously innovate and create a happy learning environment for students. I hope parents, with love and responsibility, will continue to accompany schools and society in caring for the future generation...”

New beginnings, new goals, new opportunities

People often say that a new school year is a season of beginnings, goals, and opportunities. Each student is full of energy, carrying new books, pens, wearing new clothes, and most importantly, bringing their dreams. From elementary students to university students, everyone seems to set goals for themselves: High grades, awards... But is the new school year really just about studying? Or is there something more important waiting for us to discover?

In reality, a new school year is a journey for us to explore and understand ourselves. People often focus on the numbers on report cards, but there is a core aspect, which is self-understanding. Understanding oneself is not easy; it requires time to listen to the inner voice, to discover what one is truly passionate about, one's strengths and weaknesses. If we only study without knowing who we are, we may lose our way on the path we are on.

Understanding oneself also involves accepting mistakes and failures. There will be times when tests score low, when results do not meet expectations, when exams are failed... Instead of complaining and blaming, we should view these failures as opportunities to grow. Each stumble is a valuable lesson that helps one stand up and become stronger. Understanding oneself is about accepting flaws and shortcomings to find ways to improve and become a better version of oneself.

Grades are a tool, not the ultimate goal. We are often obsessed with achieving the highest grades, surpassing peers, pleasing parents, getting into top schools. But does a perfect score truly reflect one's full potential?

In reality, grades cannot measure creativity, critical thinking, or the soft skills we learn in life. They are merely a temporary measure, a number on paper. Do not let these numbers dictate your life. Instead of focusing solely on grades, focus on the learning process and the exploration of knowledge. Ask yourself, why are we learning this? What does this knowledge mean to us? By doing so, each young person will have the motivation to learn, not for grades, but for curiosity and the thirst for knowledge.

Ultimately, perhaps the most important thing is understanding why we learn. We learn not to obtain degrees, not to secure stable jobs, but to equip ourselves with the necessary tools to live a meaningful life. Learning is not just about reading books, solving math problems, or writing essays, but also about learning how to communicate, work in teams, face challenges, and handle dangers...

Learning helps us broaden our horizons, understand the world around us, and become kinder, more useful individuals for society. With knowledge, we develop empathy, compassion, and the ability to contribute to society. Learning is not just about earning money, but about creating value and making life better for ourselves and those around us.

Therefore, in this new school year, change your perspective, do not just focus on studying for exams and high grades, but turn each school day into a journey of knowledge exploration and self-discovery. Understand yourself, view grades correctly, seeing them as a tool, not a goal.

A new school year awaits, not only with knowledge from books but also with lessons about life, people, and oneself. Seize every moment, every opportunity to grow and become a better version of yourself.

Moreover, this year's opening ceremony is not just an occasion for students to don new uniforms and step into a new school year, but also a reminder for the entire education sector of a noble mission: To train future citizens who will contribute to building a developed and prosperous Vietnam. With a spirit of innovation and high determination, we can fully trust in a successful school year, laying a solid foundation for the sustainable development of our national education system.
