Overcoming barriers, setting aside personal matters
Some women temporarily leave their young children at home, while others bravely set aside caring for their elderly parents. Overcoming these deep personal emotions, the female soldiers transform family love into motivation for training and dedication.
Their journey is not marked by lament or hesitation but shines with pride and the resolute smiles of soldiers ready to embark on a mission for peace.
Upon arriving in Abyei, they immediately face extremely harsh realities. Outdoor temperatures often exceed 40 degrees Celsius, with heat radiating from the arid ground combined with dusty storms during the dry season, creating a dense, suffocating atmosphere.
The scarcity of clean water for daily use and the looming risks of disease constantly threaten them. For the inherently delicate physique of women, staying here is a battle of physical and mental endurance.
However, with the spirit "Where there is hardship, there is the resilience of Vietnamese female soldiers", these challenges not only fail to deter them but also strengthen these flowers, making them more resilient.

The "Steel roses" in foreign lands
To understand the extraordinary endurance of these "steel roses", look at the logistics kitchen of Engineering Unit No. 4. If the outdoor temperature is 40 degrees Celsius, the heat from the giant cooking pots in the kitchen is even more scorching.
There, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Van Anh and her colleagues in the Logistics Team tirelessly peel potatoes and chop vegetables to prepare meals for hundreds of people. Sweat drenches their backs, but smiles remain on their faces because they understand: A hot, delicious meal is the greatest morale booster to ease their comrades' homesickness.

In the unit's field clinic, Senior Lieutenant Hua Thi Duoc, a nurse, carefully checks the temperature and administers fluids to a young soldier who has returned from the field with a severe fever. In the dead of night, the petite figure of the military doctor and nurse patiently stays by the bedside.
With solid expertise and care akin to that of a mother or sister, the female military medics not only heal physical wounds but also provide a strong spiritual support for the expatriate soldiers.

Overcoming homesickness, language barriers, and harsh weather, alongside their professional duties, the female blue beret soldiers quietly spread the love of Vietnam to Abyei.
With friendly smiles and care when handing out clothes and school supplies to children, or tirelessly delivering clean water to locals, they have proven that humanity is the strongest language to connect and soothe hardships in this impoverished land.

A strong support for the entire team
Commenting on the role of female soldiers, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Cong, Political Officer of Engineering Unit No. 4, could not hide his pride: "The presence of female soldiers is an indispensable piece, bringing great soft power to the Unit. They are not only proficient in logistics and excellent in military medicine but also peace ambassadors in people-to-people diplomacy".
According to the Lieutenant Colonel, through sacrifice and determination, these women have softened the harshness of this arid land, acting as the glue that unites the entire team into a unified block to overcome all challenges.
The journey of the female soldiers of Engineering Unit No. 4 in Abyei is a vivid testament to the qualities of "Heroic, Indomitable, Loyal, Capable" women in the Army.
