Heads of Vietnam's diplomatic missions abroad meet with Ministry of Home Affairs

WVR - On the afternoon of March 11, the heads of Vietnam's diplomatic missions abroad for the 2026-2029 term visited and worked with the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Representing the Ministry of Home Affairs was Cao Huy, Member of the Party Committee's Standing Committee and Deputy Minister of Home Affairs. Also in attendance were leaders from the Department of International Cooperation, the State Records and Archives Department, the Department of Overseas Labor Management, and the Department of Non-Governmental Organization Affairs.

From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there was Nguyen Viet Anh, Director General of the Personnel Department, along with 25 officials appointed as Ambassadors and Consuls General of Vietnam abroad for the 2026-2029 term.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Cao Huy expressed his pleasure in welcoming the officials appointed as heads of Vietnam's diplomatic missions abroad for the 2026-2029 term. He also highly appreciated the close and effective coordination between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially the crucial role of Vietnam's overseas missions in promoting international cooperation across various fields, contributing to socio-economic development and enhancing Vietnam's international standing.

Deputy Minister Cao Huy stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs has actively engaged in foreign affairs and international integration, contributing to the independent, self-reliant, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy of the Party and State.

Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs continues to actively participate in international cooperation mechanisms, fulfilling its member responsibilities with reporting obligations, defending national reports on international conventions (such as ILO, CEDAW conventions), and participating in the Government's Human Rights Steering Committee. It also conducts external information activities, particularly through archival exhibitions, contributing to promoting Vietnam's image and fostering international integration.

Deputy Minister Cao Huy expressed the hope that the Ministry of Home Affairs will continue to receive coordination and support from Vietnam's overseas missions in key areas: overseas labor cooperation, records and archives, non-governmental organization affairs, and international aid mobilization.

Emphasizing the role of the heads of Vietnam's overseas missions, Deputy Minister Cao Huy stated that they are the core force in promoting cooperative relations between Vietnam and other countries and international organizations. The Ministry of Home Affairs hopes to continue receiving attention, coordination, and support from Vietnam's Ambassadors and Consuls General abroad in expanding and deepening international cooperation in areas under the Ministry's management.

Deputy Minister Cao Huy expressed confidence that with their experience, courage, and high sense of responsibility, the heads of Vietnam's overseas missions will excellently fulfill their assigned tasks, contributing to strengthening friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and other countries, while effectively leveraging international resources for the country's sustainable development.

Representing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nguyen Viet Anh, Director of the Personnel Department, thanked the Ministry of Home Affairs for its comprehensive cooperation in all aspects of work over the past period. He also noted that as of February 2026, Vietnam has established diplomatic relations with 192 countries and territories, with 98 overseas missions. Among the more than 1,200 diplomatic staff working at Vietnam's overseas missions, 15 are from the Ministry of Home Affairs, effectively supporting international cooperation activities in areas under the Ministry's management.

According to Nguyen Viet Anh, as the country enters a new development phase, those appointed as Ambassadors and Consuls General bear significant responsibilities, serving as Vietnam's representatives abroad and as bridges to promote cooperative relations between Vietnam and other countries and international organizations. The meeting organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs is an important occasion for the heads of diplomatic missions to better understand the tasks and cooperation directions in areas under the Ministry's management, thereby enhancing effective coordination with ministries, sectors, and localities in implementing tasks in host countries.

The Director of the Personnel Department also acknowledged and accepted the Ministry of Home Affairs' proposals. He affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to direct Vietnam's overseas missions to enhance coordination in implementing international cooperation activities in related fields. He also expressed the hope that the Ministry of Home Affairs and its specialized units will continue to pay attention and coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure working conditions, regimes, and policies for staff working at Vietnam's overseas missions.

At the meeting, leaders of some units under the Ministry of Home Affairs provided information on recent work results and requested Vietnam's overseas missions to enhance coordination in implementing state management tasks in their respective areas.

The officials appointed as heads of Vietnam's diplomatic missions abroad also discussed several issues related to the management areas of the Ministry of Home Affairs, particularly the situation of Vietnamese workers in host countries, the advantages and challenges in management work. They also proposed several solutions to better support Vietnamese workers abroad.
