WVR - From various countries, the Vietnamese community looks towards the homeland with deep interest in the election of the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

Sharing with The World and Vietnam Report, overseas Vietnamese affirm that this is not just a routine political event, but a crucial test of institutional capacity, national unity, and the country's development resilience amidst a rapidly changing, complex, and unpredictable world.

Expectations for representatives with heart, vision, and courage

Mr. Pham Khanh Nam – Editor-in-Chief of Tap chi Huong Viet (Huong Viet Magazine) in Germany, stated that each election is an opportunity for the people to assert their sovereignty and express their expectations for representatives with heart, vision, and courage to lead the nation's development process.

In the current phase of significant transformation, the National Assembly is required not only to perfect the legal framework but also to play a role in crafting long-term development strategies, ensuring a balance between economic growth, social progress, and national sovereignty protection.

According to him, in the context of increasingly fierce global competition, choosing representatives with reformist thinking, developmental vision, and a spirit of public service is a prerequisite for the country's breakthrough.

The 16th National Assembly is expected to continue promoting institutional reform, building a transparent investment environment, encouraging innovation, and expanding development space for businesses and intellectuals. This is the foundation for Vietnam to not only grow rapidly but also develop sustainably, independently, and with an increasingly high international standing.

From the perspective of overseas Vietnamese, enhancing effective connections between the homeland and the Vietnamese community abroad should be part of the national development strategy. Flexible mechanisms, synchronized policies, and a transparent cooperative environment will enable the intellectual and financial resources of overseas Vietnamese to be transformed into concrete development drivers. This is not only an economic issue but also a vivid expression of the strength of national unity in an era of deep integration.

Looking towards the "festival of the nation", Mr. Pham Khanh Nam expressed confidence in a democratic, transparent, and lawful process – where the people's will is fully expressed and transformed into national development policies.

Choosing the right representatives not only strengthens social trust but also creates a solid political and institutional foundation for Vietnam to confidently advance on the path of rapid, sustainable development and proactive integration in the new phase.

An ever-renewing, efficient National Assembly

Returning to vote in Hanoi, Ms. Le Thuong, Vice President of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Japan, shared her emotions: "As a Vietnamese living and working abroad, I always follow major events of the country, including the National Assembly elections. Each election is not only an opportunity for people at home to exercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens but also an event of particular interest to the overseas Vietnamese community".

Ms. Thuong affirmed that despite being far from the homeland, overseas Vietnamese always look towards their roots and wish to contribute more to the country's development.

Therefore, each National Assembly election is also a time when overseas Vietnamese hope that the representatives trusted by the people will continue to build and perfect policies that promote economic development, improve people's lives, and pay more attention to the overseas Vietnamese community.

In recent years, the Party and State of Vietnam have implemented numerous policies to enable overseas Vietnamese to preserve the Vietnamese language, maintain cultural heritage, and participate in national development activities. This has made the overseas Vietnamese community feel connected and an inseparable part of the nation.

"We believe that the Vietnamese National Assembly is increasingly renewing itself, operating effectively, and listening to the opinions of people both at home and abroad, thereby contributing to sustainable national development and enhancing Vietnam's position on the international stage," she shared.

Anticipating breakthrough innovations

Entering the 16th National Assembly term, Dr. Tran Hai Linh, an overseas Vietnamese in Republic of Korea, anticipates breakthrough, substantive, and accountable innovations in legislative work and the issuance of strategic policies to create a strong impetus for Vietnam's economy to make a leap in the new development phase.

Firstly, legislation needs to lead, not just keep pace with reality but guide development. He expects the 16th National Assembly to promote the establishment of a stable, transparent, and predictable legal system, minimizing overlaps and "policy delays". Laws should become a development driver, not just a management tool. New fields such as the digital economy, green transition, innovation, science and technology, artificial intelligence... need timely legislation with an open mindset, controlled experimentation, and acceptance of the new.

Secondly, he hopes for strategic policy thinking in a long-term, evidence-based direction. Major economic policies should transcend term visions, linked to the goals of enhancing productivity, growth quality, and the economy's self-reliance. The National Assembly should strongly promote its role in deciding important national issues, choosing the right focus at the right time, creating space for the Government to be proactive and creative in management.

Thirdly, institutional reform must be closely linked with improving the investment and business environment. He expects this term to see real breakthroughs in protecting property rights, legal business freedoms, and unlocking all societal resources, especially in the private economic sector. When businesses and citizens feel secure and confident in the law, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit will be unleashed.

Finally, in the context of deep integration, he believes that the 16th National Assembly will enhance the connection between domestic legislation and international standards and commitments, while listening more to the voices of the business community, experts, intellectuals, and overseas Vietnamese. Major policies, if formed from collective wisdom and shared aspirations, will create high social consensus – a key factor for successful reform.

"With a spirit of innovation, responsibility, and courage, the 16th Vietnamese National Assembly will truly become a National Assembly of creation and development, opening a new breakthrough phase for the economy and the future of Vietnam; creating a flexible, transparent, and innovation-friendly legal environment where investors, entrepreneurs, and overseas experts feel secure, confident, and ready to act.

Once institutional bottlenecks are vigorously removed, the new generation of FDI will not only flow into Vietnam in large quantities but will also be deeply connected with quality – technology transfer and sustainable development, and the team of overseas entrepreneurs, experts, and intellectuals will truly be a strategic resource contributing to the country's prosperous development," Dr. Tran aải Linh emphasized.
