In Q1/2026, the global situation continued to be complex with conflicts in the Middle East, energy price fluctuations, and changes in trade policies of major economies significantly impacting the energy supply chain and domestic production and business activities. In response, EVN proactively implemented various solutions, operated flexibly, and ensured a safe and continuous power supply for socio-economic development and major national events.
Stable power supply, accelerating key projects
In Q1/2026, EVN's total electricity production and import reached 76.86 billion kWh, an increase of 6.6% compared to the same period in 2025. March alone saw 28.6 billion kWh, indicating continued stable growth in electricity demand.
The power source structure was relatively balanced, with coal-fired power continuing to play a key role at 52.8% of production. Hydropower accounted for 20.9%, renewable energy reached 15.4%, gas turbines accounted for 7%, and imported electricity was about 3.8%. The total electricity transmission across the system in the first three months was estimated at 60.9 billion kWh.
Notably, EVN flexibly operated large hydropower plants such as Hoa Binh, Thac Ba, and Tuyen Quang to ensure both power generation and water supply for agricultural production in the Northern Midlands and Delta.
The total water discharge in two phases reached 3.348 billion m³, saving about 18% compared to the plan, while reducing the discharge time to 15 days.
In March, EVN actively participated in Earth Hour 2026 with the message “Green Innovation – Green Future”. After one hour of symbolic lights-off, the country saved 463,000 kWh, equivalent to about 1.02 billion VND.
This activity not only carried a communication message but also contributed to raising social awareness about efficient and economical energy use – one of the key solutions to reduce supply pressure and ensure national energy security.
EVN continued to promote digital transformation in electricity service provision. In Q1/2026, the rate of non-cash electricity bill payments reached 99.77%. The total number of electricity service requests received was nearly 9.7 million, with over 76% processed through online channels such as websites, customer care applications, and digital platforms.
The rate of request reception via electronic methods was nearly absolute (99.83%), indicating a strong shift towards the digital environment in the electricity sector.
In the field of investment and construction, EVN focused on resolving obstacles and accelerating the progress of important power source and grid projects. Notably, the Quang Trach I Thermal Power Project reached 98.4% progress, ready for synchronization of unit 1; the LNG Quang Trach II Project signed the EPC contract.
The Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project has also completed construction acceptance, preparing for operation.
In Q1, EVN commenced 46 projects and completed the energization of 39 grid projects from 110-500kV, including many important projects such as upgrading the 500kV Pho Noi substation or the 220kV Doc Soi - Dung Quat transmission line.
Besides production and business activities, EVN and its member units also implemented various social welfare programs with a total budget of over 18.5 billion VND, focusing on supporting the poor, building housing, schools, overcoming natural disaster consequences, and caring for policy beneficiaries.

Ready for the peak dry season
Q2/2026 is anticipated to be the peak of the dry season, amidst ongoing challenges as geopolitical tensions, especially in the Middle East, increase fuel and transportation costs. Domestically, electricity demand is rising due to heatwaves, industrial production, and new consumption trends from AI, digital transformation, and electric vehicles.
Recognizing this situation, EVN is proactively ready to implement comprehensive key tasks to ensure a stable power supply.
In terms of production and power supply, member units strictly follow the directives of the Government, the Prime Minister, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, ensuring electricity for the peak of 2026 and the 2027–2030 period; promoting electricity saving and rooftop solar development according to Directive 10/CT-TTg.
Power Generation Corporations ensure sufficient fuel, ready to operate units as required by the system; enhance technical management and maintenance to improve reliability, while complying with environmental regulations. Hydropower plants actively monitor hydrological developments, flexibly operate reservoirs, ensuring a balance of water needs for domestic use, agriculture, and power generation during the dry season.
The National Power Transmission Corporation ensures safe grid operation, thoroughly addressing equipment defects, accelerating the installation of capacitors and battery energy storage systems (BESS), especially in the North.
Power Corporations develop electricity supply plans for each scenario, coordinate with major customers to adjust loads when necessary; enhance electricity demand forecasting, promote electricity saving, develop distributed power sources, and deploy BESS on the distribution grid.

Regarding power source investment, EVN ensures the progress of key projects: Quang Trach I Thermal Power synchronizes unit 1 to the grid in April 2026, commercial operation in May 2026; LNG Quang Trach II project starts in Q2; Quang Trach III completes procedures for implementation within the year. Additionally, accelerating the Tri An Hydropower Expansion and Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower projects.
In the field of power grids, many urgent projects are being expedited for energization in Q2, such as the 500/220 kV Nho Quan - Phu Ly - Thuong Tin lines, 220 kV Nhon Trach 3 - Long Thanh, Tay Ha Noi - Thanh Xuan; the 220 kV Dai Mo substation, and power lines supplying Phu Quoc for APEC.
To alleviate pressure on the power system during the hot season, EVN recommends that residents and businesses use electricity economically, limit the simultaneous use of high-power devices during peak hours, especially in the evening, to reduce system pressure, limit incidents, and reduce electricity costs.
According to EVN, efficient electricity use not only helps reduce costs but also contributes to limiting the risk of system overload, ensuring stable power supply for the entire economy amidst current fluctuations.
