Reshaping the scale of Mekong Enterprises: A strategic turning point in Ho Chi Minh City

The Congress gathered more than 200 member enterprises and invited guests, marking a significant shift in the Club’s development orientation from a model of individual business networking to one that promotes regional linkages and value chain-based cooperation. In line with the spirit of “Collaborative Development, Creating Prosperity,” the Mekong Business Club in Ho Chi Minh City aims to affirm its pioneering role in building and developing a connected business ecosystem between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta.
The Congress reached consensus and elected the Executive Committee of the Mekong Business Club in Ho Chi Minh City for the 2026 to 2030 term, comprising 38 members, along with a three-member Inspection Board. Ms. Lam Thuy Ai, Chairwoman of the Members’ Council of Mebigroup and Chief Executive Officer of Mebifarm Joint Stock Company, was elected as the Club's Chairwoman.

The Congress unanimously approved the renaming of the organisation from “Tam Nong Business Club in Ho Chi Minh City” to “Mekong Business Club in Ho Chi Minh City” to better align with current development trends. This change clearly reflects the urgent need for regional connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta, while reaffirming the Club’s strategic orientation to expand its scope of activities, strengthen value chain linkages, promote investment cooperation, and move toward sustainable development in the context of integration and dual transformation.In her inaugural remarks, Chairwoman Lam Thuy Ai emphasised that during the new term, the Club will prioritise building a deep and substantive connectivity platform to create tangible cooperation opportunities among enterprises, thereby gradually forming value chains. At the same time, the Club aims to develop at least 300 members, implement trade connection programs, promote interregional investment, and establish specialised industry groups to support sustainable business development.

In his congratulatory remarks, Mr. Dinh Hong Ky, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Business Association, highly appreciated the Club’s transition toward a regional linkage model, which aligns with Ho Chi Minh City's development trend and the growing need for stronger connections with the Mekong Delta. He also highlighted the significant potential of the Mekong region and suggested that the Club adopt an integrated value chain development model, focusing on key sectors to implement practical, effective cooperation programs.
Mr. Ky also recommended accelerating green transformation, the circular economy, and innovation, particularly in agriculture and processing industries. According to him, the Ho Chi Minh City Business Association will support the Club in its connectivity and development efforts. In the long term, he proposed that the Club should aim to connect business organisations from the Mekong Delta operating in Ho Chi Minh City and gradually evolve into a larger-scale organisation within the term.

Elected as Vice Chairwoman of the Mekong Business Club in Ho Chi Minh City, Miss Tourism Ambassador of the World 2018 Phan Thị Mơ addressed the Congress and emphasised that sustainable social development is closely linked to the development of the business community, especially as the Mekong Delta is facing both opportunities and challenges. According to Phan Thị Mơ, the Club is not only a networking platform but also a foundation for enterprises to jointly promote regional development toward a more dynamic and sustainable future.
Presenting the paper titled “Economic Outlook for the Delta: What Opportunities for Ho Chi Minh City Enterprises in the Mekong Region?” at the Congress, Mr. Nguyen Phuong Lam, Director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mekong Delta branch, stated that the region is not only a major agricultural center of the country but also possesses a market of over 30 million people when connected with Cambodia, along with substantial room for enterprise development. The Mekong Delta plays a vital role in Vietnam’s exports and trade surplus, while also maintaining strong domestic consumption, creating numerous opportunities for businesses.

However, the Mekong Delta continues to face many challenges, including climate change, inadequate infrastructure, limited investment, and labour migration. In the context of increased public investment and infrastructure development during the 2026 to 2030 period, Mr. Lam affirmed that major opportunities for Ho Chi Minh City enterprises lie in logistics, energy, and the application of technology in agriculture. He also called on the business community, particularly those from the Mekong Delta, to increase investment and return to contribute to the region’s sustainable development.
