Establishment of the Vietnamese Student Association in Northern Territory, completing the network across Australia
WVR - On September 29, the Secretariat of the Vietnamese Student Association in Australia (SVAU) issued Decision No. 18-QD/BTK-SVAU regarding the establishment of the Northern Territory Vietnamese Student Association (NOVAS). NOVAS is a state-level student association under SVAU.

The decision was issued based on the proposal for the establishment of the Association on September 25, 2026, by the Advocacy Committee and the approval of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Perth.
According to the decision, the Advocacy Committee for the establishment of the Association consists of nine members, led by Nguyen Ngoc Anh, a Master's student in Data Science at Charles Darwin University. The two Deputy Heads are Tran Le Nhat Minh and Bui Nguyen Thai.

The Advocacy Committee is tasked with coordinating activities, recruiting members, and organizing the first Congress of the Association within 90 days. Most members of the Advocacy Committee are pursuing master's programs at Charles Darwin University (CDU), the only public university in the Northern Territory.
Previously, during a visit to the Northern Territory in early September 2026, the Consul General of Vietnam in Perth, Pham Hai Anh, had a cordial meeting with representatives of Vietnamese students and suggested promoting the establishment of a student association in Northern Territory.
The establishment of NOVAS holds special significance.
SVAU plays a connecting role among student associations in seven states across Australia. With the establishment of the Association in the Northern Territory, the Vietnamese Student Association in Australia officially has an organization in all states and territories. This creates a comprehensive and widespread network across Australia, bringing together a large and strong force of Vietnamese students and scholars.
This network will significantly contribute to the Vietnamese student and youth movement abroad and promote youth activities. Additionally, it will serve as a support base for students to assist each other in their studies and lives, actively contributing to the Vietnamese community's activities.
The Association also contributes to fostering Vietnam–Australia cooperation. Notably, the Northern Territory's proximity to Asia makes Darwin a gateway to Asia. Therefore, NOVAS is expected to become a dynamic bridge between students, the Vietnamese community, and local partners.
Established in the final year of the third term of the SVAU Congress (2024–2026), NOVAS is the final piece on the Association's organizational map. This organization continues the spirit pursued by SVAU, with the motto “Solidarity-Courage-Pioneering”.
