On September 9, Vietnamese Consul General in Perth Pham Hai Anh visited Newry Farm – the second largest in a system of three large-scale cattle farms owned by TH Group in the Northern Territory, Australia.
This marked the first time a Vietnamese diplomat set foot on the farm since the Vietnamese enterprise took over the farm system in 2020.

The 130 Million AUD deal and long-term vision
In 2020, TH Group acquired three farms from a long-established Australian livestock company for a total value of approximately 130 million AUD – a deal that drew significant attention from local authorities and media due to its large scale.
With a voice full of pride, Le Cong Hoi, Project Manager of TH Group in Australia, shared that the system currently spans nearly 800,000 hectares with a herd of up to 70,000 cattle.
A 240,000 hectare farm operated by 15 people
Newry alone covers about 240,000 hectares, maintaining an average herd of 18,000–20,000 cattle, yet it operates with only about 15 permanent staff living on the farm.
This streamlined operation contrasts sharply with the vast scale of the grazing area, creating a distinctive feature of the livestock industry in Northern Australia.
Michael Bailey, Manager of Newry Farm, noted that production activities are distinctly seasonal, primarily from April to October – the period when cattle are gathered, sorted, nutritionally adjusted, and calves of age are separated.
Given the vast area, the farm relies on small planes and helicopters to monitor pastures, water sources, cattle conditions, and wildfire risks.

Particularly impressive is the cattle herding scene: Helicopters guide from above, while cowboys on horseback or all-terrain vehicles coordinate with trained herding dogs on the ground.
Over time, the cattle have developed reflexes to the signals from the herders and even the sound of helicopters. A cattle roundup over such a wide area can last a whole week.
From Australian rastures to Vietnamese dining tables
Approximately 50% of the total cattle production is exported to Indonesia, 10–15% is sent to Vietnam, and the remainder serves other markets, highlighting the clear connection between the agricultural investment project in Australia and the domestic and regional markets.
In a meeting with company representatives, Consul General Pham Hai Anh expressed strong impressions of the investment scale and the dedication of the team, considering it a successful model with high reference value for Vietnamese enterprises in terms of vision, boldness, and perseverance.

He also affirmed that the leadership of Northern Australia highly appreciates this project and hopes for more large Vietnamese enterprises to invest here.
After more than six years, from a deal that once captured local public attention, TH Group's farm system has stabilized operations, expanded the cattle herd, developed cultivation, and built a management model suitable for the unique conditions of Northern Australia.
