Attending the ceremony from Hanoi was Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese. The event also gathered a large number of intellectuals, experts, scientists, and Vietnamese entrepreneurs living, researching, and working in various localities in Ireland, participating both in person and online.
In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Ireland Pham Toan Thang expressed his delight at the establishment of a common organization for the team of Vietnamese experts and intellectuals in Ireland.
The Ambassador emphasised that the Network serves as a gathering and connecting point for the community, a starting step towards forming an effective mechanism to leverage the intellectual resources of Vietnamese people in Ireland. Through this, the knowledge, experience, and initiatives of overseas Vietnamese can be channeled into specific activities, contributing to the country and deepening bilateral relations.
According to Ambassador Pham Toan Thang, the Network's establishment comes at a time of dual significance. Domestically, it contributes to concretizing the spirit of Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW dated August 2 by the Politburo on the work of overseas Vietnamese, while also aligning with the major orientations of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, by the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.

The establishment of the Network opens up new avenues for cooperation in science and technology, education, and research, contributing to deepening bilateral relations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1996 - 2026).
With a team of Vietnamese experts possessing professional qualifications and international experience, understanding the environment of both countries as well as Vietnam's development needs, the Ambassador suggested that the Network gradually play a bridging role between universities, research institutes, businesses, and organizations in Ireland with Vietnamese partners. It should participate in consulting, sharing experiences, connecting partners, supporting the formation of cooperative projects, and bringing scientific-technological and innovative initiatives into practice to serve the country. At the same time, it should contribute to building a more connected and developed Vietnamese community in Ireland.

Speaking from Hanoi, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Nguyen Trung Kien assessed the establishment of the Network as a practical step, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity, companionship, and the aspiration to contribute of the Vietnamese intellectual community living, studying, and working in Ireland towards their homeland and country.
Chairman Nguyen Trung Kien stated that, alongside Resolution 57 and Resolution 23, Vietnam has identified strategic technology groups and technology products, including many fields such as digital technology, artificial intelligence, big data, cybersecurity, quantum technology, biotechnology, biomedical, and energy. These are also areas where the overseas Vietnamese intellectual community, including the expert community in Ireland, has many strengths and the ability to contribute.
In this spirit, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese is ready to act as a bridge between the Network and other Vietnamese intellectual networks worldwide, ministries, sectors, localities, and domestic agencies, thereby creating conditions for the enthusiasm, initiatives, and desire to contribute of overseas Vietnamese to be transformed into specific programs, products, and results.

Sharing at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Le Khac Nhien An, a lecturer in Computer Science, Director of the Cybersecurity and Computer Forensics Program at University College Dublin (UCD), and a member of the Network, expressed the desire for the Network to promote cooperation between strong research groups in Vietnam and Ireland. This includes aiming for high-quality scientific works, inventions, and coordinating the organization of prestigious international conferences in Vietnam. It also involves enhancing academic exchanges through programs like Erasmus , developing joint training programs, and co-supervising research students between educational institutions of the two countries. Furthermore, it aims to promote research, transfer, and application of technological solutions, with a focus on connecting startups in strategic technology fields of mutual interest to Vietnam and Ireland.
Concluding the ceremony, Ambassador Pham Toan Thang thanked the heartfelt opinions and specific proposals of the experts. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy in Ireland will always accompany, listen, and actively support the Network to soon operate substantively, effectively, and sustainably.
