Deputy FM Ngo Le Van receives President of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA)
WVR - On August 20, in Hanoi, Deputy Foreign Minister Ngo Le Van met with Mr. Watanabe Tetsuya, President of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), on the occasion of Mr. Watanabe's visit to Vietnam from August 19-21, 2026.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van assessed that the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is developing increasingly substantively and effectively, with high political trust. Japan is one of Vietnam's leading economic partners.
In addition to traditional areas of cooperation, the two countries are expanding collaboration in new fields such as science and technology, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, digital transformation, green transition, energy security, and economic security.
Appreciating ERIA's contributions to ASEAN and East Asia's economic integration process, Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van thanked ERIA for its active and effective cooperation with Vietnam through policy recommendations and coordination in organizing the ASEAN Future Forum. He affirmed that ERIA's research and policy recommendations on growth models, industrial policy, innovation, digital transformation, green transition, and sustainable development are valuable references for Vietnam and other countries in the region.
Sharing the goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045, Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van stressed that prioritizing the development of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and green transition is the main driver to realize Vietnam's new growth model, industrialization, modernization, and double-digit growth goals.
The Deputy Minister expressed his hope for ERIA to continue accompanying, sharing experiences, and providing policy advice to help identify challenges and develop appropriate responses tailored to Vietnam's circumstances and realities. He hopes that ERIA's research will become actionable plans implemented in practice, contributing to the economic development of ASEAN countries, including Vietnam.

President Watanabe expressed his pleasure at meeting Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van during this visit to Vietnam and thanked the Vietnamese Government for its support and assistance to ERIA since its establishment in 2008.
He highly appreciated the success and significance of the three ASEAN Future Forums hosted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. President Watanabe thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam for providing the opportunity for ERIA to participate and be a partner in organizing the third ASEAN Future Forum in June 2026.
President ERIA affirmed that ERIA values its cooperation with Vietnam and is ready to continue leveraging its strengths in research and policy advice to make practical contributions to Vietnam's development goals through regional cooperation in ASEAN and the Mekong region in areas such as energy linkage, infrastructure, digital connectivity, green transition, and high-quality human resource training.
Additionally, President Watanabe also expressed his readiness to contribute ideas and recommendations for discussions at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, which Vietnam will host in 2027.
