Buon Ma Thuot Medical University, located in Dak Lak province, is a private higher education institution established on August 19, 2014, by Decision No. 1450 of the Prime Minister. After 11 years of construction and development, the university has become a reputable training address in the Central Highlands, continuously expanding its scale and improving the quality of teaching, research, and community healthcare.

Integration of the School – Institute – Hospital model

The university currently offers programs in General Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Public Health, and is expanding its bridging, postgraduate, and specialized programs along with new fields to meet societal needs. By July 2025, nearly 3,000 students have graduated, with 96% securing jobs in their field within a year – a testament to the effectiveness and reputation of its training programs.

Alongside teaching, the university places a strong emphasis on scientific research and knowledge transfer. The Biomedical Research Institute, affiliated with the university, has become a pioneering center in the research, application, and transfer of technological solutions in medicine, public health, pharmaceuticals, and molecular biology.

Notably, on February 16, 2022, Buon Ma Thuot Medical University Hospital officially commenced operations, completing the School – Institute – Hospital model. This facility not only serves as a modern clinical practice site for students but also provides high-quality medical services to the Central Highlands community.

The hospital is advancing in specialized fields, applying advanced techniques such as cardiovascular interventions, laparoscopic surgery, ultrasound-guided percutaneous removal of gallstones and urinary stones, and early diagnosis and treatment of submucosal cancer via gastrointestinal endoscopy. Particularly, the Reproductive Support Unit, after more than three years of operation, has brought the joy of parenthood to hundreds of infertile couples, with 500 children born through in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Currently, the hospital has 200 inpatient beds, with a utilization rate of 150%. By the end of 2026, after completing a new high-rise building, the capacity will increase to 1,100 beds. With the motto “patient-centred care”, the medical team strives to provide the best treatment quality.

Milestones in integration and development vision

In the 2024–2025 academic year, Buon Ma Thuot Medical University proudly welcomed over 60 international students from India to study Medicine, marking a significant step in the internationalization of education. To enhance recruitment efforts, a delegation from the university visited Bhagyalaxmi Educational Services – a recruitment partner in India, and met with the Vietnamese Embassy in India.

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Cao Tien Duc, the university's rector, shared information on the recruitment and training of Indian students and expressed gratitude to Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai and the diplomatic staff for their support. The ambassador emphasized improving English proficiency for lecturers, enhancing Vietnamese language teaching for students, and focusing on managing and caring for Indian international students.

Aligned with the development orientation for the Central Highlands as outlined in Resolution No. 377 of the Prime Minister for the period 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050, which clearly states the task of “enhancing the training capacity of Buon Ma Thuot Medical University”, the university aims to become Buon Ma Thuot Health Sciences University by 2045. With a commitment to community benefits, the university adheres to three core values: Ethics – Competence – Dedication.
