During the meeting, delegates discussed cooperation within the SEARP framework and directions to enhance relations between the OECD and Southeast Asia in the future. The countries highly valued SEARP's increasingly important role as an effective cooperation platform, aiding Southeast Asian nations in policy-making, economic reform, and deeper integration into the global economic system.
Emphasizing that Vietnam always values and actively participates in OECD cooperation mechanisms, particularly SEARP, one of the OECD's key regional programs, the Ambassador affirmed that as Co-Chair of SEARP alongside Australia for the 2022-2025 term, Vietnam has strived to promote the program in a substantive, effective manner aligned with regional development priorities, thereby strengthening ASEAN-OECD cooperation and elevating ASEAN's voice in global economic issues.
The ambassadors and chargé d'affaires praised Vietnam's positive contributions during its Co-Chairmanship of SEARP, especially in successfully organizing the OECD-Southeast Asia Ministerial Forums and promoting policy dialogue in crucial areas such as economic recovery, digital transformation, green development, and enhancing economic resilience.
Looking ahead, countries welcomed Canada and the Philippines taking on the role of SEARP Co-Chairs for the 2025-2028 period, emphasizing the need to continue strengthening coordination and effectively implementing program priorities, particularly in connectivity, innovation, sustainable development, and supporting countries in aligning with OECD standards.
Ambassador Trinh Duc Hai confirmed that Vietnam will continue to be an active, responsible partner in SEARP and expressed a desire to enhance cooperation with OECD member countries to bolster SEARP's role as a practical, effective, and meaningful regional cooperation mechanism.
At the meeting, Ambassador Trinh Duc Hai exchanged views with the Ambassadors and Heads of Delegation from Australia and Canada at the OECD, along with ambassadors and chargé d'affaires from Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Brunei, and others, on recent complex developments in the Middle East, particularly their impact on global economic and energy security.
The parties shared assessments on issues related to supply chain disruptions, energy price fluctuations, and exchanged experiences in ensuring energy security and enhancing economic resilience against external shocks.
In the context of rapidly evolving, complex, and unpredictable global and regional situations, ASEAN ambassadors and chargé d'affaires emphasized the importance of maintaining ASEAN's central role, strengthening intra-regional solidarity, thereby contributing to regional stability and enhancing the ability to respond to common challenges.
The meeting took place in a warm and open atmosphere, reflecting a shared commitment to continue promoting cooperation between the OECD and Southeast Asia in the coming period.
