Vietnamese youth and students in Europe gather in Rome, connecting a new generation of overseas Vietnamese

Under the theme “Nexus Camp - All Roads Lead to Rome,” this year's event brought together nearly 100 participants representing Vietnamese youth, students and young people studying and working in various European countries as well as in Vietnam.

Attending the ceremony were Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Phuong Anh; Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Youth Federation Nguyen Tuong Lam, along with numerous delegates and international guests.

The Vietnamese Youth and Students Camp in Europe is an annual event of strategic significance for the community of Vietnamese students and young people living abroad. Beyond serving as a platform for networking and cultural exchange, the camp has been designed as a multidimensional academic and cultural space.

The event therefore contributes to strengthening community cohesion, fostering political awareness and national pride, and enhancing the sense of responsibility among young Vietnamese toward their homeland amid globalization and the international mobility of knowledge and talent.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Anh praised the initiative to organize the camp for the first time in Rome. She emphasized that the event not only highlights a generation of Vietnamese youth who are confident, proactive in international integration and proud of their national identity, but also provides an important forum for expanding networks of young Vietnamese intellectuals. It serves as an incubator for creative ideas, cooperative projects and practical research initiatives aimed at contributing to national development.

For the Central Youth Union, President of the Vietnam Youth Federation Nguyen Tuong Lam affirmed that although Vietnamese youth live and study in different environments, they share the same roots and aspiration to contribute to the country. He expressed his hope that young Vietnamese in Europe would translate the spirit of Politburo Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW into practical actions.

These include actively pursuing knowledge, mastering emerging technologies, engaging in scientific research, establishing networks of young experts and connecting innovation projects. By bringing international knowledge and solutions to address practical challenges in Vietnam, young Vietnamese living abroad can make a meaningful contribution to the country's development.

Taking place from August 28-30, the 12th Vietnamese Youth and Students Camp in Europe features a diverse program of academic exchanges, team-building activities, a startup forum and practical experiences. The program focuses on raising participants' awareness of innovation and digital transformation while reaffirming the role of young intellectuals as a bridge connecting the Vietnamese community in Europe.

Speaking about the event's theme, Vu Thi Bich Diep, President of the Vietnamese Students' Association in Italy, highlighted “Nexus” as the central feature of this year's camp.

Here, “Nexus” extends beyond a geographical destination to represent a meeting point for first- and second-generation Vietnamese in Europe. It provides a space for learning, cultural exchange, mutual support and the building of a strong Vietnamese community on the international stage.

The camp has received an enthusiastic response from young participants. Nguyen Minh Quan, a student at Bocconi University in Milan, said he was proud to attend the event for the first time and hoped it would offer memorable experiences as well as opportunities to expand his network.

For Tran Mai Anh, a participant from Romania and a representative of the second generation of Vietnamese born and raised in Europe, the camp provides a special opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of her national cultural heritage. Mai Anh shared: “Whether we were born or raised in any country, sharing Vietnamese heritage is the strongest bond that connects all of us.”

The 12th Vietnamese Youth and Students Camp in Europe in Rome marks a new step in the development of the overseas Vietnamese youth movement, continuing to spread positive energy and a strong sense of connection to Vietnamese roots among young people around the world.
