At the ceremony, delegates unanimously approved the Rules, Operational Regulations, and personnel for the Liaison Committee, which includes seven members representing the Vietnamese community in Portugal.

The Liaison Committee for the Vietnamese Community in Portugal was established on January 8 after a proactive campaign to connect various associations, groups, and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Portugal.

This marks a significant milestone in the development of the Vietnamese community in Portugal, laying the groundwork for the establishment of the Vietnamese Association in Portugal once legal and organizational conditions are met. It also reflects the active support of the Vietnamese Embassy in community affairs.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Mr. Le Quang Nghia, Head of the Liaison Committee, reviewed the history and development of the Vietnamese community in Portugal, the self-formed associations and groups within the community, and the basis and conditions leading to the establishment of the Liaison Committee.

He affirmed that the Liaison Committee for the Vietnamese Community in Portugal will play a unifying role, fostering solidarity and cooperation to build a stronger Vietnamese community, always oriented towards the homeland and working alongside the Embassy in community affairs in the host country.

On this occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Manh Thang congratulated and highly appreciated the establishment of the Liaison Committee by the Vietnamese community in Portugal. He praised the efforts, solidarity, and responsibility of the Liaison Committee members, affirming the increasingly close and effective cooperation between the Committee and the Embassy, especially since January 2026.

The Embassy is committed to continuing its support, creating favorable conditions, and working closely with the Liaison Committee to promote community activities in the future.

Finally, the Ambassador emphasized three messages that the Liaison Committee should continue to promote: unity, mutual support, and orientation towards the homeland in the era of national growth.

The Vietnamese community in Portugal currently consists of over 700 people living, working, and studying in Portugal, with nearly 300 having acquired Portuguese citizenship.

Community members arrived in Portugal at different times and under various circumstances, but most have integrated well and strictly abide by the law, receiving recognition and appreciation from local authorities for their contributions to social development.

With a tradition of diligence, unity, and high integration spirit, along with the Embassy's support, the Vietnamese community in Portugal will continue to grow and contribute more to fostering the friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries.
