During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang highly appreciated WIPO’s role in policy proposals, services, information, and cooperation in the field of intellectual property and innovation. The Deputy Foreign Minister affirmed that the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation is one of the pillars of Vietnam’s new development phase.

The Deputy Minister provided information about Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, by the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation. He emphasized that to successfully implement the Resolution, Vietnam seeks to strengthen cooperation with specialized UN organizations, especially WIPO.

He also requested WIPO to continue supporting Vietnam in using intellectual property as a tool to promote innovation, aid sustainable development, green transition, and digital transformation. Vietnam also hopes WIPO will assist in training high-quality human resources, improving the global innovation index, and creating opportunities for more Vietnamese to work at WIPO.

Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang expressed a desire for WIPO to enhance cooperation with ASEAN in the field of intellectual property, particularly in supporting the strengthening of ASEAN intellectual property frameworks.

For his part, Mr. Daren Tang praised Vietnam’s approach and strong political commitment to the development of science, technology, and innovation, particularly the issuance of Resolution 57.

Expressing delight at the increasingly deep and broad Vietnam-WIPO relationship, the Director General noted that Vietnam is a model for innovation and one of the fastest-improving countries in the Global Innovation Index (GII) among lower-middle-income nations.

The WIPO Director General shared cooperation programs on intellectual property, including teaching intellectual property law, intellectual property commercialization, and intellectual property training programs for diplomats.

In the digital age, each country needs to develop its own intellectual property plan. Currently, Asian countries are no longer just recipients of support but are providers of scientific and technological inventions to the world.

Mr. Daren Tang agreed to enhance cooperation between ASEAN and WIPO and affirmed that he would closely collaborate with Vietnamese government agencies and businesses in the field of intellectual property.
