On 3 October, Vietnam Day in Russia’s Far East 2026 took place at No. 4 Batareynaya Street, next to the National Centre “Russia” in Vladivostok. The event was jointly organised by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Vladivostok and the Vladivostok City Administration.

It marked the first time that a cultural, economic and tourism festival showcasing Vietnam’s distinctive identity had been held in Russia’s Far East, leaving a strong impression on international friends, local media and residents.

The event was attended by representatives of the Primorye regional authorities, the Vladivostok City Administration, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s representative office in Primorye, the consular corps, various departments and agencies, the Primorye Friendship Association with Vietnam, the Vietnamese Association in Primorye, as well as a large number of local residents and members of the Vietnamese community in the Far East.

In his opening remarks, Consul General Nguyen Viet Kien emphasised that Russia’s Far East, where the sun rises earliest in the country, is not only a gateway connecting Russia with the Asia-Pacific, but also a land steeped in the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Russia.

Vladivostok also holds a special place in the history of bilateral ties, as it was visited three times by President Ho Chi Minh.

The event, he said, was intended to showcase the country, people and distinctive cultural identity of Vietnam to Russian friends, while serving as a bridge to honour the enduring bonds between the two peoples and open up new opportunities for cooperation in culture, economics, trade and tourism.

The Consul General expressed his hope that the event would “bring Vietnam closer to the people of Vladivostok and the Far East” through music, culture, cuisine, traditional games and stories highlighting the country’s economic and tourism potential.

The Consul General also expressed his expectation that the event would help deepen the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Russia and strengthen the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, as well as ties between Vietnam and Vladivostok and the wider Far East region.

At the same time, the event highlighted the meaningful contributions of the Vietnamese community to the sustainable development of Vladivostok and the Far East.

The artistic programme opened with a ceremonial drum performance by students from the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU).

This was followed by the “Ao Dai Festival - Colours of Vietnam”, which took audiences on a journey through the history of the Vietnamese national dress, from the ao tu than of the 17th century and ao ngu than of the 19th century to modern styles that emerged in the early 20th century and have continued to evolve to the present day.

Vietnamese and Russian models presented traditional Vietnamese ao dai, celebrating a form of dress that combines modesty and grace with a subtle sense of allure, embodying the distinctive Eastern spirit of revealing and concealing, openness and restraint.
