Thai businesses encouraged to invest in Vietnam's central coast

A workshop on investment opportunities and potential of Vietnam's central coast was held in Bangkok, Thailand on October 6 with the aim of calling for Thai investment in this highly lucrative region.

In his opening address, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Nguyen Hai Bang praised the fruitful cooperation in trade and investment and the sound relations between the two nations, thus providing a good foundation for stronger business partnership between enterprises.

Central Vietnam has greatly benefited from government policies for foreign investment attraction and it has advantages of transport connectivity and logistics services that connect to Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor.

Thailand is among top 10 largest foreign investors in Vietnam, pouring more than US$8.4 billion into nearly 500 projects primarily in northern and southern Vietnam.

Vice Secretary General of the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) Chokdee Keawsang said Thailand and Vietnam are geographically close countries with huge potential for cooperation. Vietnam is also a large market that has increasingly captured the attention of Thai businesses in recent years. Central Vietnam is a strategic location offering ample investment opportunities, in which Thai businesses should grasp at in the future.

He stated that BOI will open a representative office in Ha Noi next year to support Thai investors in Vietnam.

Vietnam-Thailand cooperation in economics, trade and investment have greatly progressed since the two nations established diplomatic ties in 1976. Currently, Thai investment in Vietnam mainly focuses on manufacturing, processing, infrastructure and agriculture.

Participants presented reports on the central region's investment trends and their impacts on Thailand and Vietnam's economic development.

On the sidelines of the workshop, the organizing board also introduced a photo exhibition on marine economic potential and investment opportunities in the central coast  of Vietnam and Thai businesses’ investment activities in Vietnam.

The workshop was jointly held by the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand and the Board of Investment of Thailand, with representatives from the Thailand-Vietnam Business Council, the Federation of Thai Industries, research institutes and 200 local enterprises in attendance.
