Vietnamese Rescue Team returns home safely, completes international mission in Venezuela

Welcoming the team at Noi Bai Airport were Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien, Deputy Minister of National Defence; Senior Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen, Deputy Minister of Public Security, along with representatives from various departments and units of the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Public Security.
The Vietnamese rescue team participating in the earthquake recovery efforts in Venezuela comprised 124 members, including military and police forces, led by Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Director of the Rescue Department (General Staff), and Deputy Chief of the Office of the National Civil Defence Steering Committee; Colonel Pham Hung Duong, Deputy Director of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Department (Ministry of Public Security), served as the Deputy Head of the delegation.
This marks the third time Vietnam has dispatched forces and equipment abroad for humanitarian aid and disaster relief missions. Previously, many members assisted the governments and people of Turkey and Myanmar in overcoming earthquake disasters in 2023 and 2025.

During the 12-day mission in Venezuela, the 124 members of the Vietnamese team, along with their canine units, worked tirelessly to search for earthquake victims as quickly as possible, helping families alleviate their grief and collaborating with the Venezuelan Government and people to overcome the damage and move past the tragic losses.
The military and police forces, along with their equipment, were divided into different directions to carry out their tasks in coordination with the Venezuelan side. Additionally, the team actively searched for victims in surrounding areas when specific assistance requests were received from victims' families. They also established emergency medical stations to treat and provide healthcare to local residents. The team successfully retrieved dozens of victims' bodies from the rubble, handing them over to families and local authorities; they also visited, encouraged, and donated money and essential supplies to local residents and rescue forces.

The relentless efforts of the Vietnamese team in the earthquake recovery mission in Venezuela were recognized and highly appreciated by the local authorities and residents, providing significant motivation and strength for the team in carrying out their international duties.

In recognition of the outstanding contributions of the Vietnamese team, Venezuela awarded the "Hero of Venezuela" First Class Medal to the group, the "Hero of Venezuela" Second Class Medal to all 124 members, and the "Service Merit" Medal to the team's canine units.
Acknowledging the responsibility, efforts, and achievements in supporting the partner country, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo Member, Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defence, and General Luong Tam Quang, Politburo Member, Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee, Minister of Public Security, sent letters of commendation and encouragement to the officers and soldiers participating in the earthquake recovery mission in Venezuela.
