On February 12, Speaker of the Irish House of Representatives Verona Murphy received Ambassador Pham Toan Thang to discuss directions for promoting bilateral cooperation. During the meeting, the Ambassador conveyed greetings from Vietnam's senior leaders and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to the Speaker of the Irish House of Representatives.
The Ambassador also highlighted significant milestones in the bilateral relationship, notably the state visit by General Secretary and President To Lam to Ireland in October 2024, which opened a new phase in bilateral relations with a strategic partnership framework in higher education as well as in science, technology, and innovation.
Cooperation between the two countries' parliaments plays a crucial role through high-level exchanges and delegation visits. Both sides welcomed the establishment of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, which enhances exchanges between specialized agencies and shares legislative experiences. Ambassador Pham Toan Thang urged the Irish Parliament to expedite the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), creating new momentum for bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
Speaker Verona Murphy welcomed Vietnam's establishment of a resident embassy in Dublin and congratulated Ambassador Pham Toan Thang on becoming Vietnam's first resident ambassador to Ireland, affirming that the Irish Parliament will facilitate the Ambassador's successful tenure.
Speaker Verona Murphy expressed her desire to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time to commemorate the establishment of diplomatic relations, thereby strengthening ties between the two parliaments.

Earlier, on February 11, Ambassador Pham Toan Thang met with Minister of State for Sport and Postal Policy, Department of Tourism, Communications and Sport of Ireland, Representative Charlie McConalogue. The Minister praised Vietnam's impressive socio-economic development achievements and expressed his anticipation for his visit to Vietnam in March to participate in St. Patrick's Day – Ireland's large-scale annual foreign affairs program aimed at enhancing presence and promoting national cultural values with key partners.
Highlighting the shared historical and developmental vision between Vietnam and Ireland, with potential for mutual support, Ambassador Pham Toan Thang noted that the scope for cooperation between the two countries remains vast, with culture and sports, and people-to-people exchanges serving as vital bridges, enhancing understanding and connectivity between the peoples of both nations, thereby promoting cooperation across various fields.
The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Irish government and its agencies and localities for facilitating the Vietnamese community's living, studying, and working conditions in Ireland, enhancing their role as a bridge of friendship between the two countries.
Minister Charlie McConalogue affirmed his readiness to support the Vietnamese Embassy in its activities in Ireland and expressed a desire to promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries to enhance the presence and image of Vietnam and Ireland in each nation.
