In the final days of May, the Vietnamese community in Singapore looked forward to the state visit to Singapore by General Secretary and President To Lam with great anticipation.
Pride of the community
According to the Vietnamese Community Liaison Committee in Singapore, this diplomatic event holds particularly profound significance, conducted in the highest leadership capacity of the Party and State of Vietnam.
The visit not only contributes to strengthening the foundation of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Singapore but also demonstrates the long-term strategic vision and special regard of the leaders of both countries for bilateral cooperation in the new phase.
Prior to the visit, major domestic media outlets published articles emphasizing the increasingly clear role of the overseas Vietnamese community in Singapore.
The articles affirm that Vietnamese in Singapore not only integrate well into the local society but also serve as an important connecting force, contributing to promoting economic, educational, scientific, technological cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
On this occasion, the Vietnamese Community Liaison Committee in Singapore also called on the overseas Vietnamese to unite and take pride in the nation, with a responsibility to build a stronger, more integrated community.
Joining hands for national innovation
One of the standout features of the Vietnamese community in Singapore today is the emergence of a young, highly skilled intellectual generation working in technology, research, and innovation.
Recently, the Vietnam Scholars and Innovation Forum in Singapore 2026 (VSIF 2026), organized by the Vietnamese Community Liaison Committee in Singapore, gathered a large number of Vietnamese experts, scholars, scientists, and entrepreneurs living, studying, and working in Singapore.
With the theme "Connecting Vietnamese Intellectuals for National Science, Technology, and Innovation Development", the forum not only serves as a venue for academic exchange but also aims to build a substantial network connecting global Vietnamese intellectuals with the country's development needs.
Key areas discussed include artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, biotechnology, new materials, circular economy, and blockchain. Experts from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS), A*STAR, and international tech companies shared solutions and proposed cooperation mechanisms with Vietnam.
A notable highlight was the introduction of the V-NEXUS platform – a digital ecosystem applying AI to connect Vietnamese intellectuals globally, helping bridge geographical gaps and enhance cooperation between overseas experts and domestic agencies and organizations.

Sharing about the event, Professor Vu Minh Khuong stated that now is the right time to implement new cooperation models between the domestic and overseas Vietnamese intellectual community, forming deep and valuable networks.
Ms. Ta Thuy Lien, Head of the Vietnamese Community Liaison Committee in Singapore, also believes that the Vietnamese community in Singapore is a "strategic endogenous resource" for the country.
In addition to contributing knowledge and innovation, the overseas Vietnamese also show their commitment to their homeland through meaningful activities for the nation's islands.
During the recent visit to Truong Sa in 2026 organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), representatives of the Vietnamese community in Singapore joined the delegation and contributed sustainable technological solutions and knowledge for life on the islands.
Associate Professor Dr. Duong Minh Hai, an expert from the National University of Singapore (NUS), brought research on "Waste-to-Aerogel" technology, which transforms waste into useful materials for insulation, life-saving, and generating fresh water from air humidity. These studies are expected to offer practical solutions for the unique living conditions in Truong Sa.
This year, the Vietnamese community in Singapore has donated 210 million VND to the soldiers and people of Truong Sa. This is not just material support but also a symbol of the community's attachment, responsibility, and national pride.
Faith in the young Vietnamese generation
Alongside intellectuals, experts, and entrepreneurs, the Vietnamese youth and student community in Singapore is also becoming a potential force, contributing to fostering friendly relations between the two nations in the future.
Currently, many Vietnamese students are studying at top universities in Singapore such as the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and international technology and finance institutes.
Not only do they achieve excellent academic results, but these young individuals also actively participate in cultural exchange, volunteer activities, community connections, and promoting Vietnam's image in the host country.
Through student associations, cultural clubs, and youth connection programs, the young Vietnamese generation in Singapore is gradually building a network of knowledge, skills, and extensive international relations.
Many young individuals, after graduation, have become experts in technology, finance, and scientific research, continuing to serve as bridges for cooperation between businesses, universities, and organizations of the two countries.

Cultural, sports exchange activities, introducing cuisine, Vietnamese language, ao dai, or programs focused on the homeland also help the younger generation preserve national identity in an international environment. At the same time, this is a way for Singaporean friends to better understand the modern, dynamic country, people, and culture of Vietnam.
In the context of increasingly comprehensive Vietnam-Singapore relations, today's youth and students are expected to become an important successor force, continuing to nurture friendship, promote creative cooperation, and open new bridges between the two nations.
Sharing with The World and Vietnam Report, Ms. Ta Thuy Lien emphasized: “We can contribute to our homeland in three aspects: sharing knowledge, solutions, and participating in development models in priority areas for Vietnam; connecting resources, partners, and international standards with domestic needs; and promoting cultural-community strength. A united, well-integrated community will create a sustainable foundation for economic, scientific, and policy cooperation.”
