Leading the way in AI training for teachers
In August 2025, the Department of Education and Training (DOET) of An Giang, in collaboration with Khan Academy Vietnam (KAV), launched the online course "AI in Education" for over 40,000 teachers from preschool to high school, vocational education, and continuing education.
This is the first province in the Mekong Delta to implement comprehensive AI training for all teachers, not only meeting the immediate need for digital skills enhancement but also aligning with the spirit of Resolution 71-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2025, by the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development and anticipating the dgital competency framework for teachers soon to be issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Mr. Nguyen Gia Dang, Head of Quality Management & IT Department, DOET of An Giang, shared: “The course has equipped teachers with an overview of AI, digital ethics, AI applications in the classroom, etc. The enthusiastic participation of teachers indicates a breakthrough in mindset and approach to technology. Teachers in An Giang are proactively and adeptly engaging with AI tools, making lesson preparation easier and more effective, and allowing students to access technology directly in their lessons.”
Teachers understand their role in the AI era
Within a month, nearly 90% of An Giang's teachers participated in the course and completed the final exam. More importantly, changes in awareness and teaching methods are the sustainable values.
Teacher Huynh Ba Hieu from Giong Rieng ethnic boarding secondary school shared: “Early access to AI courses is crucial for developing teachers' digital competencies and teaching quality. Teachers can learn and apply technology in the classroom to create engaging lessons and suitable tests for different student groups. This enables us to easily access new software and applications, improving individual teaching quality.”

For teacher Nguyen Hoang Nam from Ba Hon secondary & high school (Kien Luong), the most significant change is not just in tool usage skills but in mindset: “After the course, the most noticeable change is not just knowing a few more AI tools, but having a 'compass' to navigate the digital world. I am more confident in embracing technology while being cautious and responsible.”
Mr. Nam was particularly impressed with Common Sense Education's sample lesson "AI Bias": “This content directly addresses a timely and dangerous issue that few recognize. I realized my role is not just to teach students to use AI, but more importantly, to understand and critique AI. The world students are about to enter will be entirely reshaped by AI. Teachers knowledgeable about AI will equip students with usage skills and the mindset to creatively and ethically coexist with AI.”
Teacher Nguyen Thi Thu Hien from Duong To 2 primary school (Phu Quoc) also noted significant changes: “Previously, I only used a few familiar software. After the course, I am confident I can try many new tools, use AI for lesson planning, question design, and student support, and focus on information security. As a result, lessons become more dynamic, and students are more engaged.”
Meanwhile, teacher Tran Ngoc Thuy from Ba Hon secondary & high school (Kien Luong) emphasised the long-term role of AI in developing teaching competencies: “Early access to AI courses is significant for developing teachers' digital competencies. Firstly, teachers are equipped with modern digital thinking and skills, knowing how to choose and utilise AI tools correctly, safely, and effectively. This helps me innovate teaching methods, personalize learning activities, design resources, and assess students more flexibly. Teaching quality is significantly improved for the school as teachers can create engaging lessons suitable for various student groups, while fostering self-learning and digital thinking in students.”

These experiences show that teachers are not only learning how to use AI but also understanding their pioneering role: guiding students to learn, think, and live with AI safely and responsibly.
Preparing to embrace Khanmigo and the digital competency framework
Mr Nguyen Gia Dang noted that the "AI in Education" course has helped An Giang teachers develop two important competency groups: foundational digital competencies to understand and use basic AI and enhance self-learning abilities; and specialised digital competencies to apply AI in lesson design, differentiated exercises, and analysis of student learning outcomes. “The upcoming digital competency framework will have many specific criteria groups. An Giang's proactive early training helps teachers embrace this new standard smoothly, ready to meet innovation demands,” Mr. Dang stated.
Beyond acquiring knowledge, the course also lays the foundation for teachers to be ready to adopt Khanmigo – an AI tool specifically for education developed by Khan Academy, expected to launch a free Vietnamese version for teachers in November 2025. With this preparation, An Giang will become one of the regions with the most significant advantages in applying AI to practical teaching, thereby enhancing digital competencies for educators and accompanying students in the AI era.
An Giang waves the flag to spread digital transformation in education nationwide
Following the success of the "AI in Education" course for teachers, the An Giang DOET plans to continue advising the provincial People's Committee to invest in IT infrastructure, expand specialized training courses, and collaborate with KAV to implement Khanmigo in schools.
Mr. Nguyen Gia Dang shared: “An Giang not only aims to lead in the Mekong Delta but also aspires to become a model for other localities. We believe mastering technology will be a breakthrough for An Giang's education to keep pace with global trends.”
The "AI in Education" course has helped over 40,000 teachers in An Giang access new knowledge and change their mindset, clearly defining their role in the AI era. When teachers confidently apply AI, students experience more dynamic learning, and the education sector gains a foundation for policy adjustments.
