Dr. Chheang Vannarith, Deputy Secretary-General and Head of the Advisory Group of the Cambodian National Assembly, affirms that the elections for the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils for the 2026–2031 term in Vietnam are significant political events that contribute to promoting governance reform and enhancing the efficiency of the state apparatus.

According to him, the goal of these reforms is to improve governance efficiency, reduce bureaucracy, utilize resources more rationally, and accelerate decision-making processes. From this perspective, Vietnam's steps can be seen as an effort to innovate in public administration, aiming to achieve higher efficiency with fewer resources.

The Cambodian expert emphasizes that the National Assembly holds a particularly important role in the political system with three main functions: legislation, oversight of the executive branch, and representation of the people. In the reform processes of many countries, the legislative body often acts as a catalyst for public administrative reform, particularly through the drafting and passing of important laws, including budget laws.

Evaluating the activities of the Vietnamese National Assembly in recent times, Dr. Chheang Vannarith notes that Vietnam's legislative body has made many commendable innovations. The quality of questioning and answering sessions has been increasingly enhanced, contributing to stronger oversight of the executive branch and limiting the abuse of power.

He states that the National Assembly, in its oversight role, can ensure that law enforcement is transparent and effective, thereby contributing to the country's reform and development process.

Sharing about parliamentary cooperation between the two neighboring countries, Dr. Chheang Vannarith states that Cambodia always regards Vietnam as a close and important neighbor. The cooperative relationship between the National Assemblies of the two countries has been maintained closely and has achieved many positive results.

He cites Vietnam's support in building the new Administrative Building of the Cambodian National Assembly as tangible evidence of the friendship and cooperation between the two legislative bodies.

According to the Cambodian expert, in the context of a rapidly changing world, parliamentary diplomacy plays an increasingly important role in enhancing understanding, building trust, and guiding cooperation between nations.

Dr. Chheang Vannarith expresses his hope that the elected members of the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to fulfill their role as representatives of the people, conveying the people's aspirations to the Government, thereby contributing to national development and strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, especially in border areas.
