Though facing many difficulties, limited facilities and a shortage of medical staff, the hospital, with determination, innovative management thinking, and continuous improvement of healthcare services, has become a solid support for more than 90,000 ethnic minority residents in the area.

The journey of rising from hardship

Meo Vac Regional General Hospital is a grade II general hospital under the Department of Health of Tuyen Quang Province. It has 04 functional departments, 17 clinical and paraclinical departments, and 140 planned beds/180 actual beds.

Its workforce of 91 staff members, including 20 doctors, which is a precious asset in an area lacking high-quality human resources. The daily dedication of the hospital’s staff and doctors has contributed to transforming healthcare in the highlands toward being modern, professional, and closer to the people than ever before.

The years 2024 and the first half of 2025 were both challenging and marked by remarkable achievements for Meo Vac Regional General Hospital. In 2024, the hospital received 28,614 medical visits, an increase of 114% compared to the target, with a bed occupancy rate of 154%.

In the first six months of 2025, visits surged to 17,237, equivalent to 130% of the same period. Inpatient cases reached 8,372—a 180% increase compared to the same period. The actual bed occupancy rate rose to an impressive 181%, reflecting both effective patient intake and strong public trust in the hospital.

Not only exceeding professional targets, the hospital has also focused on introducing new techniques such as hemodialysis, electrolyte testing, and cervical/lumbar spinal traction. Notably, the hospital effectively implemented Project 544 to improve grassroots healthcare quality in border communes such as Son Vi, Nam Ban, and Giang Chu Phin.

Through mobile clinics and lower-level consultations, thousands of residents have received free checkups, advice, and medicine. The application of diagnostic imaging, emergency resuscitation, obstetrics, and a combination of traditional and modern medicine at commune health stations has helped ease the load on higher-level hospitals and improved community healthcare capacity.

Digital transformation – A breakthrough driving force

One of the outstanding highlights at Meo Vac Regional General Hospital is its strong innovative thinking in applying information technology and comprehensive digital transformation. The LAN, internet, and medical software systems have been upgraded from version 3.0 to 6.0. Telehealth equipment is operating effectively, maintaining continuous connection with provincial and central hospitals such as Bach Mai Hospital and Hanoi Medical University.

Since early 2025, the hospital has introduced 4 QR code readers for medical registration using chip-based ID cards and the VNeID application, supported cashless payment for 100% of bills, and applied digital signatures to over 98% of official documents. More than 49,000 prescriptions were connected with the National Prescription Portal in the first half of 2025.

Electronic medical records have been updated in compliance with Circular 46/2018/TT-BYT. 100% of birth certificates, death certificates, driver’s health check records, and similar documents have been fully digitized and linked with social insurance agencies, reflecting the hospital’s strong shift toward digital transformation and administrative reform.

Beyond “leapfrogging” in technology, the hospital also organizes professional training via the Z-WaKa platform—allowing medical staff to continuously update medical knowledge without traveling long distances, saving both time and costs. Departments have implemented the 5S model of comprehensive quality improvement, applied by 100% of staff, gradually building a professional, orderly, and efficient working culture.

Prioritizing patients– Growing from satisfaction

In 2025, Meo Vac Regional General Hospital achieved high satisfaction survey scores: 4.8/5 from outpatients, 4.46/5 from inpatients, and 4.47/5 from medical staff. These results vividly demonstrate the effectiveness of campaigns such as “Renewing service style and attitude toward patient satisfaction” and the “Green – Clean – Beautiful” healthcare facility model.

All activities, from codes of conduct and maintaining a 24/7 hotline to patient opinion surveys, are carried out seriously. The hospital recorded no complaints or violations of conduct rules throughout 2024 and the first half of 2025. Its facilities have been steadily improved; departments are organized scientifically and made easily accessible, creating maximum convenience for patients, especially those from remote areas.

Steadfast in trust – Toward the future

In the last six months of 2025, Meo Vac Regional General Hospital aims to continue strengthening inpatient and outpatient care, enhance responsibility, shorten treatment processes, tighten professional regulations, and develop new techniques. Chronic disease management models will be expanded, particularly for COPD, asthma, and hepatitis.

Regarding human resources, the hospital focuses on building a high-quality successor workforce, emphasizing postgraduate training for Specialist Level I doctors, Specialist Level I nurses, and surgical instrument technicians—aiming to eliminate intermediate-level qualifications among medical staff by the end of 2025.

At the same time, the hospital continues to propose that the Department of Health and the People’s Committee of Tuyen Quang Province invest in a solid waste treatment system, extend discharge permits, allocate funds for infrastructure upgrades, expand land as planned, and purchase more modern medical equipment for professional work.

Despite persistent difficulties such as a shortage of highly specialized doctors, degraded treatment facilities in some areas, and incomplete medical equipment, it is precisely through such “fire-tested gold” challenges that Meo Vac Regional General Hospital is rising strongly—not only as a symbol of healthcare in a difficult borderland, but also as a manifestation of professional dedication, innovation, and the aspiration to rise of those carrying in their hearts the mission “for community health”.

On the road ahead, the hospital will continue to affirm itself as a bright spot of Tuyen Quang’s healthcare sector—a place that nurtures hope in the northern borderland where flowers bloom from stone.
