Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his spouse and a high-level delegation of Vietnam will attend the third UN Ocean Conference in France and pay official visits to Estonia and Sweden from June 5-14, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' communique issued on June 2.

The trip is made at the invitation of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of France Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Estonia Kristen Michal, and Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson.

The UN Ocean Conference is a critical platform for advancing the global agenda on marine sustainability, climate resilience, and blue economy development. Vietnam, with its long coastline, rich marine biodiversity, and vulnerability to climate change, has a direct stake in the future of the world’s oceans. By participating at the highest level, Prime Minister Chinh will not only affirm Vietnam’s support for global action to protect ocean ecosystems, but also showcase the country’s own efforts in sustainable fisheries, marine conservation, and climate adaptation. His presence sends a clear message: Vietnam stands ready to contribute and work alongside the international community to develop sustainable solutions to global environmental challenges.

Equally significant are the Prime Minister’s official visits to Estonia and Sweden – two nations known for their technological innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable development. Vietnam’s relations with both countries have grown steadily in recent years, and these visits provide an important opportunity to elevate bilateral ties to new heights. Estonia, a global leader in e-governance and digital society, offers valuable lessons and potential partnerships in Vietnam’s digital transformation agenda. Sweden, one of Vietnam’s earliest and most consistent partners in Europe, brings complementary strengths in green technology, education, healthcare, and social innovation.

As Vietnam seeks to modernize its economy and promote a sustainable development path, international cooperation is more vital than ever. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s engagements in the UN and with key European partners highlight Vietnam’s evolving role in shaping a more just, green, and interconnected world. The outcomes of this trip may not only bring tangible benefits in trade, investment, and innovation, but also reinforce the country’s image as a forward-looking, responsible, and collaborative nation.
