n 25 August, a solemn yet heartfelt ceremony was held in Hanoi to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of Vietnam’s diplomatic service. In an atmosphere imbued with dignity, warmth and emotion, MC Khanh Vy, the host of the event, shared her reflections on the illustrious journey of Vietnamese diplomacy.
A “home” that nurtures and inspires
Speaking to The World and Vietnam Report, Khanh Vy said that although she currently works in the field of communications, she always prioritises devoting her energy to programmes organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For her, this is not merely professional duty but a natural bond with the “home” that shaped her during four years at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and continues to accompany her in postgraduate studies.
She considers this gratitude a source of happiness, as it allows her to contribute in her own way to the broader mission of the diplomatic community. “Like a daughter in the family, I always feel deeply honoured and give priority to events and activities of the diplomatic service”, she shared.
According to Khanh Vy, what makes diplomatic activities distinctive is the opportunity they provide for students to participate, whether in large-scale events or smaller initiatives. These experiences are valuable not only for gaining knowledge and skills but also for meeting prominent figures who are usually only seen in the media. Such moments, she noted, have inspired many young people to dream of pursuing a career in diplomacy.
She emphasised that every diplomatic event she has attended radiates warmth and friendliness. It is precisely this atmosphere, she said, that encourages and empowers the younger generation to move forward with greater confidence.
The flame of tradition guiding the young generation

Khanh Vy believes that the Foreign Affairs sector has gone through a proud and accomplished journey. From the first Minister of Foreign Affairs, President Ho Chi Minh, to the succeeding generations of officials, all have left their mark with dedication to the nation.
She expressed admiration and gratitude to the pioneers who laid the foundations and built the traditions of Vietnamese diplomacy. For her, the greatest inheritance passed down to younger generations is the value of patriotism. She recalls the words of Ambassador Do Hung Viet: “The first quality of a diplomat is love for the homeland”.
In her view, when imbued with patriotism, every official will find joy in serving the country across the many fields of diplomacy. This flame, passed from generation to generation, continues to light the way forward. Alongside patriotism, she also considers solidarity a vital element - a “bright point that shines across all social strata and generations”, with diplomacy embodying this enduring value.

Start with Small Actions
From the perspective of a young MC, Khanh Vy believes that every citizen can act as an “ambassador” through their daily deeds, words and image.
For herself, she has chosen a simple symbol: the Vietnamese conical hat. “Wherever I go, I carry a conical hat with me”, she said. This small gesture not only introduces Vietnam to international friends but also serves as a spiritual anchor, reminding her of her national roots.

Looking ahead to National Day on September 2, Khanh Vy expressed her honour at being part of rehearsals for the A80 celebrations. “To live these days, when the entire nation channels its efforts and sentiments towards the homeland, is a tremendous honour”, she said, adding that it would remain an unforgettable memory.
“Sometimes we young people say that in the next life we would still want to be Vietnamese”, she remarked, describing this as an expression of patriotism embedded deep in the subconscious, nurturing the will and aspirations of today’s generation.
From Khanh Vy’s perspective, diplomacy is not solely the mission of professional diplomats but also the shared responsibility of every Vietnamese citizen. Each word, action and image contributes to spreading the nation’s cultural values, history and identity to the world. In this mission, patriotism and solidarity stand as the firm foundations that continue to inspire the aspirations of Vietnam’s younger generations.
