On this occasion, Commissioner Síkela will attend the EU-Vietnam Business and Investment Forum, taking place in Hanoi on March 24, 2026.

Ahead of the visit, the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships stated: “Vietnam is an ambitious country with a rapidly growing economy, a young population, and immense potential. Together, we aim to create new economic opportunities for the youth and build a more sustainable economy through investments in clean energy and modern transport systems. With the Global Gateway Strategy, we are bringing European businesses and investors to Vietnam to turn this ambition into concrete projects, create jobs, and support the country's green transition.”

During the EU-Vietnam Business and Investment Forum, Commissioner Síkela, along with the European private sector, will announce new EU investments in Vietnam.

The forum will focus on clean energy and sustainable transportation, two priority areas of the Global Gateway Strategy in Vietnam. These sectors also support Vietnam's efforts and commitments under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), co-led by the EU.

Additionally, the forum aims to strengthen economic ties between Europe and Vietnam, while supporting Vietnam's modernization towards a digital and sustainable economy with strong long-term growth. The event will bring together senior policymakers from Vietnam and the EU, business leaders, investors, and other partners to open up new opportunities for trade and investment, showcase specific projects, and build long-term business partnerships.

The visit is expected to be conducted under the "Team Europe" approach: Alongside European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Nicola Beer, Commissioner Síkela will lead a delegation of European businesses to Vietnam to explore investment opportunities, particularly in sustainable transportation.

During the visit, the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships will also make a number of important announcements and meet with senior Vietnamese leaders.

The Global Gateway Strategy is an EU initiative to bridge the global investment gap and promote smart, clean, and secure connections in digital, energy, and transport sectors, while enhancing health, education, and research systems.

The Global Gateway Strategy embodies the "Team Europe" approach, bringing together the European Union, EU member states, and European development finance institutions. This approach aims to mobilize up to 400 billion Euros from public and private investments during 2021-2027, creating essential connections instead of dependencies, and bridging the global investment gap.
