Hanoi implements traffic diversions for the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and Independence Day

WVR - To ensure security, safety, and smooth operations for the celebrations of the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and Independence Day September 2 (A80), the Hanoi Police have announced traffic diversions on multiple streets across the capital from August 21 to September 2, 2025.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution’s success (19/8/1945–19/8/2025) and the Independence Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (2/9/1945–2/9/2025), the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the city of Hanoi will solemnly hold a ceremony, military parade, and mass march (A80).

The ceremony will begin at 6:30 AM on September 2.

Prior to this are:

  • First combined rehearsal: 8:00 PM, August 21
  • Second combined rehearsal: 8:00 PM, August 24
  • Preliminary review: 8:00 PM, August 27
  • Final full rehearsal: 6:30 AM, August 30

To ensure security and safety for the celebration’s activities, the Hanoi Police announce the following traffic restrictions and vehicle routing:

Times and streets with complete traffic bans for all vehicles

  • From 5:00 PM on August 21 to 3:00 AM on August 22
  • From 5:00 PM on August 24 to 3:00 AM on August 25
  • From 5:00 PM on August 27 to 3:00 AM on August 28
  • From 6:00 PM on August 29 to 3:00 PM on August 30
  • From 6:00 PM on September 1 to 3:00 PM on September 2

Streets under complete vehicle bans (except for vehicles with security passes and vehicles serving the celebration): Hoang Hoa Tham, Thuy Khue (from Hung Vuong to Van Cao), Mai Xuan Thuong, Quan Thanh, Phan Dinh Phung, Hung Vuong, Thanh Nien, Hoang Van Thu, Doc Lap, Dien Bien Phu, Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, Chua Mot Cot, Le Hong Phong, Ong Ich Khiem, Ngoc Ha, Bac Son, Ton That Dam, Nguyen Canh Chan, Hoang Dieu, Nguyen Tri Phuong, Chu Van An, Ton Duc Thang, Cat Linh, Trinh Hoai Duc, Hang Chao, Tran Phu, Son Tay, Kim Ma, Lieu Giai, Van Cao, Nghi Tam, Yen Phu, Cua Bac, Doi Can, Doc La-Pho, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Le Duan, Tran Nhan Tong (from Le Duan to Quang Trung), Trang Thi, Hang Khay, Trang Tien, Co Tan, Phan Chu Trinh (from Hai Ba Trung to Trang Tien), Le Thanh Tong, Tong Dan (from Ly Dao Thanh to Trang Tien), Tran Quang Khai, Tran Khanh Du, Quang Trung (from Ly Thuong Kiet to Trang Thi), Ly Thai To, Nguyen Huu Huan, Ngo Quyen (from the State Bank Square to Trang Tien), Giang Vo, Lang Ha, Lang (from Lang Ha to Tran Duy Hung).

Times and streets under temporary bans or travel restrictions

  • From 5:00 PM on August 21 to 3:00 AM on August 22
  • From 5:00 PM on August 24 to 3:00 AM on August 25
  • From 5:00 PM on August 27 to 3:00 AM on August 28
  • From 6:00 PM on August 29 to 3:00 PM on August 30
  • From 6:00 PM on September 1 to 3:00 PM on September 2

Temporarily banned routes:

  • Inside Ring Road I: temporary ban on all vehicles (except those with security passes, vehicles serving the celebration, priority vehicles, official vehicles, buses, garbage collection trucks, and emergency repair vehicles).
  • Between Ring Road I and Ring Road II: temporary ban on trucks with a gross weight of 1.5 tons or more, and passenger vehicles with 16 seats or more (except those with security passes, vehicles serving the celebration, priority vehicles, official vehicles, buses, garbage collection trucks, and emergency repair vehicles).

Routes with travel restrictions recommended by Hanoi Police:

  • Between Ring Road II and Ring Road III: restricted access for commercial passenger vehicles under 16 seats, private cars, and motorbikes.
  • Between Ring Road I and Ring Road II: restricted access for all vehicles.
  • From Ring Road III heading to the suburbs (including National Highway 32, Cau Dien, Ho Tung Mau, Le Duc Tho, Le Quang Dao, Thang Long Avenue, Lang Van Hoa Road, National Highway 21A, Ho Chi Minh Road, National Highway 6, Quang Trung, Tran Phu, Nguyen Trai, Provincial Road 419, Provincial Road 429, Vo Nguyen Giap, National Highway 18): restricted for all vehicles (except buses, garbage collection trucks, emergency repair vehicles, vehicles with security passes, and vehicles serving the celebration).
  • No stopping or parking is allowed on streets under full or temporary bans.

Alternative routes for restricted vehicles:

  • Vehicles from National Highway 5, Hanoi–Bac Giang Expressway, or Hanoi–Hai Phong Expressway to Cau Gie–Ninh Binh Expressway: take Thanh Tri Bridge → Ring Road III elevated road → Do Muoi interchange → Cau Gie–Ninh Binh Expressway.
  • Vehicles from the eastern provinces (Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh…) to the northern, western, and northwestern provinces (Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang…): Route 1: Phu Dong Bridge → Thanh Tri Bridge → Ring Road III elevated road → Thang Long Bridge → Vo Van Kiet…; or Route 2: National Highway 5 → Nguyen Duc Thuan → Thanh Tri Bridge approach road → Phu Dong Bridge → Hanoi–Bac Giang Expressway → Hanoi–Thai Nguyen Expressway to Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang… (and vice versa).
  • Vehicles from the northern provinces (Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho…) to the southern provinces (Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa…): National Highway 2 → Vo Van Kiet → Thang Long Bridge → Ring Road III elevated road → Do Muoi interchange → Cau Gie–Ninh Binh Expressway.
  • Trucks with a gross weight of 10 tons or more traveling on Ring Road III elevated road should limit descending at interchanges along Pham Van Dong, Pham Hung, Khuat Duy Tien, Nguyen Xien, and comply with instructions from the authorities.

Residents from other provinces coming to Hanoi for the celebrations are advised to use passenger buses and public transport, especially the urban railway: Line 2A Cat Linh–Ha Dong: from Yen Nghia Station (Ha Dong Ward) to Cat Linh Station (O Cho Dua Ward); Line 3 Nhon–Hanoi Station: from Nhon Station (Tay Tuu Ward) to Cau Giay Station (Giang Vo Ward).

Walking is encouraged on certain streets in Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem, Cua Nam, Hai Ba Trung, Giang Vo, Ngoc Ha, and around Ba Dinh Square. Attendees should follow police guidance, stay on sidewalks, avoid jostling or spilling into the roadway, and check the official website https://a80.hanoi.gov.vn for updates before participating.

To ensure safety and the success of the celebrations, road users should strictly comply with the Road Traffic Law. When encountering priority vehicles on duty with signals on, promptly move to the right, stop completely or turn into the nearest side street, and give way to the convoy.

The Hanoi Police request that the Department of Construction, Hanoi Transport Corporation, and Vietnam Railways increase public transport services to bring residents into the city center, add road signs to guide drivers, adjust bus routes accordingly, and temporarily suspend Hanoi–Dong Dang train services (which run along Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Thai Hoc, and Le Duan streets).

The Hanoi Police inform the public so that residents and drivers can comply, choose suitable routes, and assist the police in completing their duties.
