Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung highly valued the significance of Minister Maninder Sidhu's first visit to Vietnam in strengthening and deepening the relationship between the two countries. He asked Minister Sidhu to convey thanks and New Year greetings from General Secretary To Lam to Canada's Governor General Mary May Simon. He also expressed appreciation to the Governor General for sending congratulatory letters on the occasion of General Secretary To Lam's re-election as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam for the new term. He expressed delight at the positive progress in the Vietnam-Canada Comprehensive Partnership, especially in the fields of economy, trade, and investment, with bilateral trade turnover rapidly increasing to over 8.5 billion USD in 2025.
Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam highly values and wishes to strongly promote the Comprehensive Partnership with Canada. He emphasized Canada's proactive and positive foreign policy towards connecting with the world and the Pacific region, and the shared strategic interests between the two countries as a favorable foundation for expanding bilateral cooperation and addressing common challenges. He also thanked and welcomed Canada's support for ASEAN's and Vietnam's stance on resolving disputes through peaceful means, based on international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

Canada's Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu expressed his pleasure at visiting Vietnam for the first time and attending the inauguration of the new Canadian Embassy office in Vietnam. He congratulated the success of the 14th National Party Congress and expressed confidence that Vietnam will succeed in the new era of development. Regarding bilateral relations, Minister Sidhu praised Vietnam's increasingly important role and dynamism as Canada's top priority partner in ASEAN. He highlighted the enormous potential for expanding cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade and investment, science and technology, education and training, environmental protection, and climate change.
Minister Maninder Sidhu appreciated the frequent meetings and exchanges of views between the high-level leaders of the two countries and their coordination in implementing various bilateral cooperation mechanisms and multilateral agreements. He emphasized the advantage of being members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in 2026 when Vietnam will be the rotating chair, which will create new momentum to enhance the effectiveness of cooperation between Canada and Vietnam, contributing to promoting peace, stability, cooperation, and development in each region and the world.

The two Ministers had in-depth discussions and agreed on measures to promote the Canada-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership. They affirmed their commitment to facilitating cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, security and defense, official development assistance, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. They also agreed to expand cooperation in new potential areas such as supply chains, AI, semiconductors, quantum technology, clean energy transition, and renewable energy development, green agriculture development, environmental protection, and climate change. Additionally, they agreed to coordinate and support each other in Vietnam's preparations to host APEC Year 2027 and to strengthen Canada's relations with ASEAN.
