EU High Representative Kaja Kallas congratulated Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung on his new position and the important responsibilities entrusted to him by the Party and State of Vietnam.
Expressing delight at the recent upgrade of Vietnam-EU relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit of European Council President Antonio Costa to Vietnam, the EU High Representative highly valued the prospects for cooperation between the EU and Vietnam. She noted that both sides have numerous opportunities to boost cooperation in the coming time, especially in maritime security and the protection of critical maritime infrastructure.
The EU High Representative also expressed her desire to meet with Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung at the upcoming ASEAN-EU Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Brunei to continue discussions on issues of mutual interest.
Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed thanks and appreciation for the positive and significant contributions of EU High Representative Kaja Kallas in promoting and developing Vietnam-EU relations in recent times.
Informing about the outcomes of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Vietnam's major goals from now until 2030 and 2045, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam always values its relations with the EU and its member states.

The Foreign Minister expressed pleasure at the positive development of bilateral relations in recent times, with political trust continuously strengthened. Economic, trade, and investment activities are the main drivers of the relationship. The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has shown positive effects, making Vietnam the EU's largest trading partner in ASEAN and the EU the fourth-largest trading partner of Vietnam.
Cooperation in science, technology, and innovation is emerging as a new strategic pillar. The Minister proposed that both sides continue to enhance understanding and political trust, expand trade and investment cooperation, and promote scientific and technological collaboration.
Both sides agreed to continue maintaining exchanges and close coordination to effectively implement the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, as well as to enhance cooperation between the EU and ASEAN in the coming time. Regarding the East Sea issue, both sides emphasized the importance of adhering to international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, to maintain peace and stability in the region and the world.
