Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung holds talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio

Politburo Member and Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung thanked Secretary Marco Rubio for sending a congratulatory letter to General Secretary To Lam and the 14th National Party Congress. The Foreign Minister said that the Party Congress was a great success, outlining major policies, including a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance and resilience, as well as peace, friendship, cooperation and development, together with active and responsible participation in addressing regional and international issues.
Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam values a stable, long-term relationship with the United States, in line with the interests of the people of both countries and contributing positively to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world. The Foreign Minister appreciated the support and active cooperation from Secretary Rubio and the U.S. Department of State in effectively implementing measures to promote bilateral relations. He suggested that two sides continue to coordinate to enhance political trust, promote exchanges at all levels, including high-level visits, and strengthen cooperation in areas such as economics, defense and security, war legacy settlement, science, and technology.
Regarding international issues, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung welcomed the U.S.'s continued interest and positive, responsible contributions to regional peace, security, and development. He highly appreciated President Trump's Board of Peace Initiative and thanked the President for inviting Vietnam to join the Board. Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed Vietnam's readiness to leverage its role and favourable conditions to work with the U.S. and the international community to promote peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and globally.
Secretary Marco Rubio congratulated the success of the 14th National Party Congress and affirmed U.S. support for a strong, independent, resilient, and prosperous Vietnam, in line with the interests of the people of both countries. He praised Vietnam's socio-economic achievements and noted that Vietnam's development model is suitable for many countries. Secretary Rubio thanked Vietnam for being among the first nations to accept the invitation to join the Board of Peace and for General Secretary To Lam's participation in the Board of Peace's opening session in Washington, D.C., today. He emphasized that Vietnam's participation in the Board of Peace is significant, reflecting a proactive and positive Vietnam in addressing common regional and global challenges.
Secretary Marco Rubio assessed that Vietnam-U.S. relations have a solid foundation of shared interests, which provides a strong basis for the relationship's continued development in the future. He expressed a desire for both sides to continue coordinating to deepen and effectively develop the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He appreciated Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung's concerns and proposals regarding bilateral relations in the future. Secretary Rubio agreed to promote exchanges and contacts between the high-level leaders of the two countries.
Regarding economic and trade cooperation, Secretary Marco Rubio expressed a desire for both sides to soon complete reciprocal tax negotiations, creating a framework to boost bilateral cooperation in this field, as well as expand cooperation in science, technology, defense-security, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, and for peace and stability in the region and the world.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern. Secretary Marco Rubio appreciated Vietnam's increasing role and voice in regional and multilateral forums such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Group of Twenty (G20), and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). He emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means, respecting the interests of all parties involved.
On this occasion, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung reiterated the invitation for Secretary Marco Rubio to visit Vietnam. Secretary Marco Rubio accepted the invitation with pleasure.
