Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and Singaporean counterpart agree to promote comprehensive cooperation

WVR - On the afternoon of October 26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Party Central Committee Secretary and Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung met with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on the occasion of attending the 47th ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings.

At the meeting, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed his pleasure at meeting the Singaporean Foreign Minister for the first time in his new position. He affirmed the desire to further promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Singapore in general, and the excellent cooperation between the two ForeignMministries in particular.

The two Foreign Ministers expressed their delight at the significant progress in bilateral relations with the upgrade to a comprehensive strategic partnership. This milestone opens up numerous opportunities to deepen and elevate cooperation between the two countries. They appreciated that both sides have completed the development of an action program to implement the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, set to be signed under the witness of the two countries' Prime Ministers on this occasion. This serves as a direction for more comprehensive bilateral relations over the next five years.

Pleased with the progress in economic cooperation, the two ministers agreed to continue promoting high-level and other exchanges. They aim to effectively implement existing bilateral mechanisms and establish new cooperation channels, especially party channels. They emphasized coordinating with relevant ministries and sectors to actively implement the outcomes of recent high-level visits, particularly the Green Economy-Digital Economy Partnership and the Economic Connectivity Agreement.

Both sides also agreed to collaborate in upgrading the second-generation Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP) to be greener and smarter. They will continue to closely coordinate in other important areas such as high-quality human resource training and smart city development, affirming mutual support at multilateral forums.

The two ministers agreed to jointly promote mutually beneficial cooperation areas, continue supporting and coordinating positions between the two countries on issues of mutual concern at regional and international forums. This includes coordinating to ensure ASEAN's common stance on the East Sea issue, ensuring the full implementation of the DOC, and soon achieving an effective, substantive COC in accordance with international law, including UNCLOS 1982.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung thanked Singapore for its emergency aid in various forms, including essential supplies to help people in some northern provinces of Vietnam overcome the aftermath of typhoons and floods.
