Consulate General in Busan: Expanding substantive local cooperation with Ulsan, Republic of Korea

Consul General Doan Phuong Lan expressed her admiration for the achievements made during the past three years of the Mayor's term, especially the policies aimed at timely reorienting Ulsan to become Republic of Korea's AI capital, a hub for the hydrogen energy industry, decentralized energy technology, deep-sea mining technology, and the healthcare and biotechnology sectors.
The two sides discussed potential areas of cooperation to be promoted in the near future, focusing on three key sectors: (i) Strategic manufacturing industries such as automotive, shipbuilding, and precision engineering; (ii) green energy, petrochemicals, hydrogen, and offshore wind power; (iii) high technology including AI, digital transformation, and smart logistics.
Mayor Kim Du Gyeom stated that Ulsan is aiming to be the national leader in transforming manufacturing industries through AI, by building data infrastructure linked to its decades-long manufacturing advantages.
He also shared information about a program to recruit 50,000 workers under a special visa issued by Ulsan, applicable to countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and expressed a desire to welcome more skilled Vietnamese workers in the future.
On this occasion, Consul General Doan Phuong Lan thanked Ulsan for its prompt, timely, and heartfelt support to Khánh Hoà Province following the severe flood damage recently. Ulsan has been a sister city to Khanh Hoà Province since 2002.
The Consul General congratulated Ulsan on UNESCO's recognition of its Petroglyphs as a World Heritage site, making it South Korea's 17th World Heritage site. Both sides agreed to continue exchanges and enhance local-level visits to seek substantive cooperation opportunities.
